I strongly disagree that you can't keep tweeking your character or that 1 lvl 20 is as good as any other of the same profession/alt.
People spend hours farming for money in this game for perfect weapon mods for a PvE character to compete in PvP or more easily pass hard missions and farm. many Runes are expensive for a reason: they boost attributes, health or damage reduction beyond what an non-runed lvl 20 could get. Instead of the constant search for level 50 and the uber skills/weapons and armor that give me 100 DPS, its all about squeezing 1 more hitpoint out of the system, tweeking my build just that little bit more that makes it sing so sweetly. You want to craft items? Buddy, I craft CHARACTERS! I think the obsession with higher levels and grind is just misplaced disgruntlement. If you want grind, farm gold and items. If you want to show off, take your tricked out lvl 20 to an early mission and nubstomp Grawls/Stricken enemies for free (all the younglings have to do is listen while you Ctrl+click your greens at them). Uber level 50 abilites? End game Elites. they're hard to get because they're better with preffered skills, not just random chance. there's plenty of things people who like grind can do to enhance their PvE character. Just not the same thing, day in, day out, same place, same people to the point that by the time you leave that area you never want to come back. Except THK. No one wants to go back there...at least, none of the other in-game masocists I've met... My warrior is the same warrior i've had since the first week I bought the game, and I'm still in constant search for those little touches that will make her pwn just a little more with the next build I or another pwerson comes up with. When you think about it that way? Life begins at level 20. Last edited by Minus Sign; Jul 11, 2006 at 02:07 PM // 14:07.. |

I really like leveling up my characters. I like the process. For me it is about the journey, not the destination. Even though I have Factions, I like the fact that you werent max level until like 2/3 of prophecy. If I wanted to start at max level I would play adventure games, not RPG's. But anyway. Yeah They have said that Level 20 as the max is something they dont plan on changing, Once you reach level 20 your character is fully trained, and ready to take on the world, or something like that.

Sure, you don't have to "grind" if your happy and content with a white max damage weapon and substandard armor (Enjoy!). This is not the case for 99% of the Guild Wars population that plays PvE. The casual PvE and PvP player will not really experience "grind" if they decide that they want basically "nothing" from the game, but for everyone else there is "grind". PvP Grind: If you wana be good in PvP you need to grind faction to unlock the skills and mods necessary to compete with the best. You need to learn the skills and builds that you use and other players use. In order to compete with the best you need to prove yourself to others, make connections, and aquire a high enough rank to be accepted by other high ranking players and guilds. (otherwise you are ignored by the best and might as well play Random Arena). Its a massive grind in PvP just to aquire rank 3, and alot of people take the cheap way out and play IWAY to get there. I suppose GvG is a different story, but I'm sure it has it's fair share of grind and a lot of the same issues should apply. PvE: Your not getting FOW armor, 15k armor, or even 1.5k and collector armor without "grind". Max damage gold rare weapons and greens require "grind" to get them. You either farm or trade for them, which can take a great deal of time, especially if your new to the game and have no gold to spend. Unfortunately this will lead most people to farming and trading which is major "GRIND". You might get lucky and get a perfect drop, but those are few and far between. Chest farming is also another way to go. It's possible that Anet intended to make this game "grind free", but that just didn't happen. Don't try and tell me otherwise because you will be wrong. I don't really care that much about exceeding the level cap past 20, but I would enjoy a few more character development options. Maybe if you could unlock special character features after obtaining a certain amount of experience, like the option to make you character look older and wiser. My level 20 warrior has 3mil exp, but still looks young and wet behind the ears. |

raising the level cap would be detrimental to the overall game... since it is about skill. it is balanced now... no need for 400 more attribute points.

level 20 is good for GW. the game is way to small for higher levels.
Btw. you can go to lvl 20 in 1 day. if the max goes to lvl 40 its just 2 days extra farming XP. btw the lvl is worthless. its the way how you use your skills. just see it as a puzzle. so many skills, but you can only use 8. |

Getting a character to level 20 is the easy part.
Playing that character well - that's a much harder proposition! |
