If I make a Canthan core character, can I go to Tyria and do quests to get skills? I'm too poor to buy them all, but some of the Canthan designs are just cooler looking than tyrians.

Yes, if you have both Factions and Prophesies AND have merged your accounts, then you can travel to Tyria. All missions from Linos Arch and forward are open for both Canthan and Tyrian characters. The missions before Lions Arch are NOT open for Canthan characters, except the main missions, which you can do but don´t get any experience doing.

Good news...

How does a tyrian character get to shing jea? I'm attempting both Protector of Tyria and Protector of Cantha on my Tyrian warrior.

Talk to the dude that gives you the Galrath quest, always forget his namne... (Firstwatch Sergio??)

Then you get a mission that gets you to Cantha and Kaineng Center, then just run to the Marketplace and go to the docks there to get to the Island.
