Ok, can you tell us a bit more about your character ? Skills and such would be helpful. I'd say level 11 is about normal for arriving in Yaks. Maybe time to upgrade your armour ?

Enemies in the shiverpeaks are a step up from the ones in ascalon, its definately possible to do the area with henchies. Just pull small groups of enemies, make sure you have a healing monk in your party and it will go smoothe.

Using a sword/hammer/axe would be MUCH better. Also, get the Yaks Bend armor.

If you're playing throught the game and this is your first character, Yaks
is where is where you start having to use more tactics to survive. You'll have to try to use terrain to block ranged attacks while you pick off the malee. Lure small groups back into "cleared" areas so you don't over aggro or get ambushed by patrols. Look through the skills available for things that will help you survive, like Dolyak signet for armor boost and to counter knockdowns from them Beastmasters, maybe Ward against Malee and / or Shields Up to reduce the damage your henches take long enough for you to kill a few attackers. I see that you're a warrior, but you mention a bow. That's a bad sign. You're probably not useing your characters attributes to the best advantage. You really should be taking the hits for your group. When I first got to Yaks I was still using the weapon I got in pre seering, it just wasn't up to the job. I managed to get through but it was really tough. You might want to hang around Ascalon looking at some of the weapons for sale spammers and see if you can get a good one cheap. |

You should also know that if you take ALL the quests you can from Yak's Bend, there will be many more enemies than usually. I suggest only taking one or two and leaving the rest for later.

If you ever want to go back to using your pet, it will always be with you whenever you have charm animal equipped. The only way to get rid of it is to see a Tamer... theres one... in... um... Tyria...^^

The "best" armor depends on how you play the game. For tanking purposes, you want armor with better armor/absorbtion mods. For damage dealing, you may want armor with energy bonuses. I think the armor there will cost around 1k to craft (I don't remember for sure, tho). You can always look for collector's armor and get that - check with guildwiki to find the collectors for armor in that area.
For weapons, you should be able to find a decent (not great) axe or sword for 1-2K that will suit your needs there. Hang on to your bow, though. you can use it for pulling enemies away from the big mobs. I wouldn't go with hammer in PvE, they're more suited for PvP. Don't be afraid to group up with real people. These forums are full of horror stories about bad PUGs, but from my experience the bad ones are not that common. Besides, you'll probably end up with people who've done all of those quests before so you'll be able to pick up things from them. |

My suggestion would be join a guild and get lots of free stuff and help from them. A perfect example of a great guild to join would be mine.

yea yaks was a shock when i got there for the first time..its abit easier with a couple lvl15s dont take lvl20s as that just ruins the experiance of playing first time around |

I switch to ranger secondary often myself, but never use a bow, not even to pull. I just run up to the group that I want and as soon as my agrro bubble touches the closest one, hit "x" to instant reverse. If they don't follow, I just hit x again and tease them until they do. There are some ranger skills that a warrior can make good use of and still feel "in character". Some of the traps, Troll Ungulent, Whirling Defence, etc. Personally my favorite is Apply Poison, that coupled with Sever Artery, Gash, and Final Thrust can take down most anything in a few seconds. You can hit three or four to poison them and then finish them off one at a time. You shouldn't have a problem finding a good weapon for under 1k. |

Ohhhh, I remember looong when my first char ago at Yaks Bend and I almost gave up since I thought it had become too hard, LOL!
One thing I would say is you must have missed something along the way since you should be around level 13 maybe even 14 if you've done all there is to do before yaks. |
