Opinions / Question on High Speed Internet
After last weeks 2 hour download the camels back has been broken and I want to switch to High Speed. My local provider offers 384K, 1.5 MB and also up to 4 MB. I do not download music or videos. I just play Guild Wars and surf. I am just wondering if I would be ok at 384K or better off buying a higher speed?

I think you would be okay at the 384K, but I would go with the 1.5MB. It would all depend on the price difference though.

"regular" high speed should be fine. We used that and two of us connected just fine - we upgraded to the super high speed only because hubby needs all of the "best" and "latest" toys I do see a lsight difference, but for what you are saying you will use it for - IMHO, I don't think the extra cost would be worth it - unless of course you are like my husband!

It also depends on the TYPE of Connection.
I'm assuming by the speeds that the service offered will be DSL (ADSL actually, I assume that because those speeds are often times the speeds provided for DSL services). In Which case buying the 4MB one would be a complete waste of your hard earned money. This is the "Projected" Maximum for a normal DSL Line, but because of several factors that aren't under your control...It would hardly EVER give you speeds any faster than the next highest speed option. 1.5 Megabits per second tends to be a good level ground for DSL. |

It is good to go for a little higher than what you need because you will rarely get the speeds they are advertising at. 1.5 is good.

It runs fine on Dialup, so the 384k would be fine.

348 ADSL works. Without lag. It just takes 20 mins to download an update.

since you just want to play GW and/or surf the net then your current speed is fine
4MB is overkill and you'll be wasting your $$$ so you can stay where you're but it appears you aren't happy so go for 1.5 MB like every suggested |

Minor hijack - How much bandwidth would allow for GW + TS or Vent to run simultaneously w/o lag?

the other thing to keep in mind is do any of these services "cap" your download limit? and if so how much? remember we are pulling in new content from the server fairly regularly, and if you do choose to download a couple of big files from somewhere else, you may find you approach your limit a little to fast. I found this to be a minor problem, until I updated my service for a slightly higher limit.
