Items (Values & whether they are good)
I am pretty new to Guild Wars and am quite confused with the items. I understand the purple coloured ones are 'rare' but what are we supposed to do with them, and how do we know if they are good (As in people would really want it)? Is there a guide somewhere that I someone could link for me or just explain how to realise which items to vendor and which to try and sell?

purple is "uncommon" and gold are "rare"
you wont be able to sell most purple if any purple at all to players, sell them to the merchant or salvage. Weapons and shields have different skins which drives up the price depending on the skin. A plagueborn weapon cant be sold for more than 1k or even 500g ( dont take my pricing for granted, I am no price guru ) while a Zodiac weapon goes for 100k+ Even thought these two weapons would have the same modifier making the weapons equally good. There are some guides in the Ventari forums you can take a look as the price gurus visit there and answer questions at their best knowledge. |

Blue and White items I tend to give away to new players since I figure I really don't need the money that bad...the really rubbish items, I salvage. |

I don't see whats so elitest about making a good profit. Charity has it's place for sure, but there's nothing wrong with legitimate business where supply and demand dictate prices.
In the time it takes you to sell that weapon for an extra 50 gold, you could have gone outside and killed enough monsters to get much more than 50 gold. Thats why people say to merchant items like that. You have to factor time into the equation when you try to sell a weapon. |

Sorry, I wasn't meaning it was elitest to make "good profit", by elitest I meant excessive sums of money that only people who have played this game for months or "been to ebay" would have...i kinda don't think it's too fair on other players, or people like me I guess, who really don't have time to make enough money to buy 100k+ items!
I wasn't meaning it in a derogatory/flaming kind of way! In response to your second point, I never hang about for too long. I don't have the patience to sell stuff usually! If noone comes to me within about 5 mins of me advertising I will go off and do something else. You might well say I won't sell anything that way, but you'd be surprised at the number of people who will notice my advertisement & buy in that time!
