would like to start playing Guild Wars - need advice
I've been a WoW addict for quite a while but Guild Wars has always been a temptation. Now that Factions has been released I'm ready to take the plunge. I have a question for those who have both Prophecies and Factions. Should I worry with purchasing Prophecies and running it first or just get factions? Am I missing out on alot by not having both?

go for Prophecies first as it has a slower ramp up and is bigger. i do PVE ONLY so that affects my opinion as Factions is more PVP oriented and the ramp up is much fast er to max level to get you into the high level content. WILL YOU MISS ANYTHING FROM CHAPTER 1? YES some of my favorite skills are chapter one exclusive and i will take a Factions character back to Tyria (Prophecies) as soon as i can to pick up those skills also Nightfall will be out in about 3 months and depending on your tastes you might want to skip Factions and go chapter 1 and add chapter 3 to it as you can add/play them in any order |

I too recommend starting with the original (Prophecies) and if desired add Factions to it. Unless you absolutely must have an assassin or ritualist right away, then you need Factions for those professions.
Both chapters are good, but Prophecies is better. |

I would suggest you to take: Chapter 1+3, cuz ArenaNet announced that Nightfall is getting more in the PvE Direction then Factions ( i didnt like Factions that much -.-, but the weapon skins are great^^)

I'm also gonna put in my vote for Chapter 1 as a starting point. It's been out for a while now, so it should be cheaper than Factions. And it has more PvE content than Factions does.

Thanks for all the quick replies, sounds like Prophecies is the way to go.

I would also recommend getting Chapter 1 first. Better bang for your buck.

Ya. If you're still checking back on this thread I'd recommend the Chapter 1, then Chapter 3 later too. Especially since you're coming from a PvE game, and Factions is like PvP with some PvE mixed in for flavor.
Also, Factions was like testing the water for Guild Wars. They spent plenty of time preparing the original Prophecies campaign, but Factions was their first campaign to be released on their staggered year schedule, and their first time adding new content to a solid game. It was like a learning experience for them, and because it was sort of like a training Chapter for the programmers/designers, I think the quality of Factions is much less than future Chapters will be. If you'd like to get Chapter 2 for the skills and professions eventually, it's a nice game despite what I've been saying, but if you're just starting up, take your time through Prophecies, and once you're ready to expand your horizons, go straight to Chapter 3 first. |

Chapter one has a good learning curve that teaches you the basics. It progressively becomes harder as you go. And Remember dont sell your black dye

Just get chap 1,you will at least have 4 slots for characters,as wth factions you will only have 2,or buy both get 6,and if you run out of room you can always buy more slots.

I was a WoW addict too. Full tier 2, best horde guild on the server. Let me tell you, this game is a good relief. I don't have to worry about having a schedule for a stupid video game and it's MUCH different than WoW. Anyways, go for prophecies first and quit WoW. Screw that 15$ a month trash. Good luck to you and I hope you have fun.

Just to let you know up front...
Gameplay wise GW has litteraly NOTHING in common with WoW - just a heads up if that's what you're looking for. |
