Default Monk sec. class help!

Hi all.

I am new to the monk class and would like some help regardig which secondary class i should choose.

I want to be a healer monk, since this is probably the class that is in most demand. Lookin in the game it seems that mesmer is often used as secondary class. There is probably a reason for this, so I am thinkin of choosing this class as well. Hovever before I do this, I would like to hear if anyone has some good advice.

I would like to thank the people that gives constructive advice in advance.

As it stands, Mesmer is indeed the most efficient secondary class to employ on a Monk. Skills like Channeling, Inspired Hex, Revealed Hex, Mantra of Recall and Drain Enchantment are all excellent forms of energy management.

You may find that once you go straight healing, you won't use any of your secondary skills.

But the skills listed above are definites to look at.

Yep, that's pretty much the normal build.

And then you'll be a horrendous monk.

Energy management exists for a reason.

I have ele as my 2nd just incase enemies surround me i can just use a low energy AoE spell and they move away. Azmodan is right though once you go straight healing you barely use any secondary skills

If you are looking for something different and I won't argue about /mes I would suggest /w because of the great line of tactics that you can use.I had great success from level 1 to 20 beating Prophecies and Faction as a Mo/W in healing and active protect if you want to infuse balance stance is good to prevent knock downs. If you have a sword and I think you can do this with axe you can use riposte for defence with little points in tactics.I mostly use watchyourself to gian the +20 armour and bonnetti's and it does help to gain energy back even with out balthazars spirit.I would go /mes if I was pvping in a 8 person party.

Mo/W do make great bonders as well with Balth Spirit with bonnetti's to gian energy back as passive protector.

Regardless of the primary class, I find myself not using the secondary class at all (unless it's /mo for the rezzing ability).

That said, the Inspiration line of mesmer skills does have a lot of good energy management skills. In PvP, energy management is vital and completely necessary to play the monk class well. In PvE, energy management isn't so necessary.

Unfortunately, the only energy management skill inherent to monks (peace & harmony) is really quite terrible (can be easily stripped and only 1 pip of energy) and needs to be given a boon of some sort; but I'll save that one for the appropriate thread. That said, I still use it to regain the pip of energy lost by maintaining divine boon.

I have been /mes before and found that I didn't use the energy management skills when I had them equipped. I say pick whatever floats your boat. You always have the right to change it later.

there are now a lot more choices, with the introduction of Blessed Light in the Factions campaign. because of it's high efficiency, you can actually get away with not using any energy management. however, i do not suggest using it right off the bat (you won't get it until you reach Cavalon anyways).

another viable alternative is to use the good old boon prot. you can easily find the builds anywhere on the forums. the required skill, Energy Drain, won't be available until Cavalon as well.

the last alternative (and it is obscure), is to use the skill Boon Signet, and combine it with 3 enchantments.

in short, the viable secondaries are: mesmer, and really anything else you want.
