Why does forgotten fan hide more energy than the other?
Why does the forgotten fan set hide more energy than the chakram? I thought the chakram would be better because it gives less of an energy bonus AND has a higher req. Am I missing something here? |

If you don't meet the req. green items only give 3 energy, golds give half of their rating. So from the gold you get +6, then -5, the green will be +3 then -5.

Sorry to ask, but what good is hiding energy? I dont delve too deeply into the game mechanics, I usually just look into thing that concern my characters only when theres something I feel I need to know.

prolly for when rebirthing people switch to youre negative set after switch back to youre normal set and no 0 energy for you
or when dealing with wither and or the other necro energy drain switching to negative set can get em off you without being at 0 energy |

That is one of the reasons elena, but your first example is pve, which in the case of rebirth, knowing it drains all your energy ( meaning you use it after battle) you
and you party could simply wait till you and energy back up. But the main reason this is for is for pvp, monks often swapto minus energy items ( and maybe a shield) when not casting this is so mesmers can only steal so much energy, and also drain in the case you mentioned as 2nd. If a monk has 30 energy you can only steal 30, lets say the monk did have 50 energy normally, he swaps and goes to 30, mesmer does a few energy stealing skills and the monk is down to 0, the monk swaps back to cast on a ally and he has 20 energy to cast with, if he had not cast his ally might have died. |

Remember, back in July Green SHEILDS were updated to give the same AL as a normal shield when you didnt meet the req, but Green offhands were not changed.
Which effectively makes the green -5s better than normal dropped -5s. This is probably a way to promote the green "Fans" which were quite new at the time of that update. |

I have to say.....it would be nice to have some consistency here. This definitely is one of those 'undocumented features' you have to dig pretty deep in non-official GW sites to find. With all the complexities and math involved with this game, stuff like this doesn't need to happen. I prefer to be able to get all the info I need about an item by just reading it's states.....none of this 'sometimes you get half the energy if you don't meet the req if it's a certain color, other times you don't get any of the feature if it's a different color' nonsense.

it will probably be fixed at some point, so don't count on it being this way forever. The items are intended to be consistent, otherwise certain items become almost necessary (outside or armor, etc) and that goes against everything that ANet / Guildwars has stated.
