An unusual question.
After quitting World of Warcraft due to money restraints and utter boredom, I have turned to Guild Wars for something fresh as I have never played it before and I love the looks of it, and from what I've heard it's pretty much the MMORPG I'm looking for.
The thing I loved about WoW though, was the towns. Just walking about exploring and talking to people. The social side of it, you know? Now from the screenshots I've seen of GW, I havn't seen any of towns or anything like that. Call this a stupid question, but does GW actually have towns similar to WoW? And if so, would anybody be able to show me some screenshots of the different towns? I'd really appreciate it. This isn't effecting whether I want to get the game or not. I'm still getting the game regardless, I'm just curious as to what the towns are like. Thanks a lot! |

Check out GuildWiki.org and browse around. There are lots of screenshots of the various towns - and there are quite a few. Lions Arch and Kaineng Center are two to look at first. =)

GW's towns are different than WoW towns, though.
*You can insta-map to any town you've been to; no finding/riding the boat/bird to travel. *Every time you leave town in PvE you are in your own instance; you will not encounter any other real players until you return to town (couple of Factions missions excepted). *Towns are divided into multiple districts (kind of like servers in WoW, only you can travel between them) when there are lots of people there. Lower districts tend to be the "loudest," mostly trade being done in local chat. :/ There are lots of rude players also in towns; I've heard WoW is better in that regard. If you like the social aspect of GW, people- or chat-watching is okay; but you should find yourself a nice guild to interact with. Or choose one of the smaller towns to lurk in! Welcome to GW! |

Towns are actually nothing like they are in WoW. The trading system is light-years behind wow's, although the channel interface is much better IMO. But in a town you can't really do a lot. You can't use any skills, and equipped items (except for armor) won't show.
You can definately hang out and chat or whatever, but towns have lots of restrictions that don't exist in wow. Also, anytime you travel to a busy district expect a shit load of lag. |

The towns are the meeting places for character to party up. When a town gets too full, it spawns a new "district" (exact copy of the town). You can move between districts at will to meet up with people. This is where you can mingle with people and such.
Once you go on a mission or go in to an explore zone, the game shifts to "instanced' it's your party in your own copy of the map where only you exist with anyone you brought with you. |
