whenever i used to run people i always offered them to chance to pay upfront, i NEVER once ripped anyone off. if they lagged out or if i dropped from the game i would always add them to friends and offer them a run at a later time. i would occasionally get the players wouldnt pay and leave before they payed and such. it just goes to show how dishonest people can be. if you're going to run a business why not be professional and be honest with them.

We lock the door on our house. But if we forget one day, and someone goes in and steals our computer and our cookie jar, is the thief excused?

It's stupid/irresponsible to leave your house unlocked, but a thief is a thief. Period.
Someone breaking into your house is not willingly giving them your money under a belief they wont rip you off, which happens in a scam. A scam is the scammers fault, and the dumbass that gave thme the money.

Same here. I actually had someone join one of my runs (elona reach) and threaten not to deliver the last crystal unless they all paid him. In response I just refunded anyone who had already paid and did the run again... the same guy got on his monk (you think I would've recognized the guild tag) and tried to ruin the guy again. This time I just said "f this, guys the run is free, pay if you wish". Actually made like 8 times my normal profit from people paying double and triple out of feeling sorry...

To the OP: You really shouldn't pay up front if they force you to, that often means that they are just scamming you (in the forums here it is unlikely to happen because we have enough proof to likely ban them). Take the advice from someone who knows- Always pay at a reliable point in the run, never pay in advance unless you can assure completion of the service, and whenever possible pay at the end. The exception to paying at the end of the run is if they already have a pre-agreed upon point to pay at, otherwise it seems like *you* are the one scamming *them*.

I loved running people... the only run i did which earned me around 600k because i did it like a hundred times is the dunes of dispair run... and on that one people would scam me out of not paying... some people have faith but others are very stubber you never know what kind of customer you will get.... sometimes its hard to trust even the customer... because if they dont pay its like 35mins wasted.

First rule for getting a run to anywhere: NEVER PAY UPFRONT, make some other arrangements to the runner if they are confident in their abilities they may come to a compromise. Second: always pay the runner for his time, some of these runners are very good due to practice reward them for their effort. Third: don't expect a runner to get you where you want to go in the first try, sometimes even they die due to a bad spawn.

When reporting a scammer you need to know several things: the time it happened, the district that it happened in, what town, and a screenshot of the transaction wouldn't hurt. and anything that they had to say within a screenshot. NC-Soft will and does go after scammers so dont give up. Just let them do their jobs and when the person at fault is caught then they will know that their behavior is wrong.
