Gicanticus = Giant
Lupicus = possible reference to Plants (Lupin) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lupin Possibly giant Plants? Just my thoughts. |

I believe it simply refers to giants. Not like grey giants or trolls but huge giants that are actually giant. Similarly the Christian bible proclaims simply "Giants walked the earth in those days".

Just like in the Christian view of the world (like Sith mentioned "Giants walked the earth in those days") - Tyrian Religion also tells of a time when Giants, TRUE giants, walked the earth.
They are long gone though. There is some great lore for Tyria in the manuals and website, talking about the time before humans. |

It is believed that the giant bones found around outer Ascalon areas and the Crystal Desert/Crystal Overlook are the remains of the giants.Although this is player speculation.

Those are the remains of the pilgrims to the Desert, some from Elona to Ascend, some not. They each have the story of who they belong too if you click them. This is the kind of detail that was missed with Factions, and to a smaller extent, Nightfall. And its all about the small details..its what made Guild Wars a classic game with award after award and followers, and Factions/Nightfall have had progressively lower scores by reviews. |

There's a timeline in the manual for Factions (and possibly the other chapters) that says:
"Early pre-imperial era (10,000 EB) Last sign of Giganticus Lupicus - true giants - on Tyria (best guess)" |
