New Player - Some Questions, if I May?
I played Guild Wars during it's original release, and never did quite make it very far into the game. For some reason, it just did not capture my interest.
In any case, I have returned to the game. I have installed the original Guild Wars, Factions, and Nightfall, and am extremely impressed so far with what I have played. Coming from World of Warcraft (which I still do play actively), the game is quite different with instancing and questing, and, although the game does seem very easy to pick up and learn, I do have some questions, if I may? 1. I am not quite sure I understand the concept of crafting in this game. The way I understand things, I will need to purchase a number of salvage kits, break down monster drops using these kits to get crafting items, and then bring these items to a crafter to make me items? Is there a good, online guide I can read to understand this process? 2. What are identification kits used for? 3. I understand collectors can give you items based upon item collections. Do these collectors give you quests, or do you just collect a number of items and then see who is interested in them? Is there an online guide to collections I could read? 4. If I create a character from either Factions or Nightfall, can I port that character to the original Guild Wars Ascalon setting, and then play through the 3 campaigns with this character? The Paragan fascinates me... and likewise, can I build a Monk in the original Ascalon setting, and play through the other 2 campaigns with the 1 character? 5. I am not quite sure I understand capturing of skills/spells. I need to obtain a signet for each spell I want to capture, but I am a little unsure as to what I need to do to capture and elite spell from monster. In addition, I understand spells can be earned by doing quests, but also from monster drops? This whole concept has me confused (I am used to the WoW concept of profession trainers). 6. How can I obtain more bag space? Thank you all for your patience and for your kindness as I learn the ropes. |

hi, first off, welcome to the community. to answer some of your questions:
1. crafting is used for armor and weapons. you give the crafter npc the materials and money and you get the armor or weapon. 2. id kits are used on items, blue, purple, or gold that drop from monsters. it will say unidentified on the item and you use the id kit to reveal the stats on that item. 3. you can also collect monster drops (ie. charr carvings, gargoyle skulls...etc.) to trade for weapons or armor instead of paying to have it crafted. 4. if you linked your 3 games, you can take all your characters from one game to the next. the cities you use for that (and they will have special quests to unlock the other games) are Kamadan (nightfall), Kaineng Center (Factions) and Lions Arch (Prophecies). 5. to capture skills, all you need to do is make sure you have the skill cap signet on your bar, kill a boss monster (has a colored aura) and then use the sig cap. it will bring up a screen. now, the only thing is, that boss has be either your primary or secondary profession. or nothing will be in the window that pops up. you want to capture the skills lined in gold, they are the elite skills, you can only get those through capturing. all other skills you can buy from npcs. 6. if your current bags have only 5 slots, you can purchase a rune of holding for each to make them 10 slots each total. you can get those shortly after going post at Sardelac Sanitarium. i hope this helps. as for getting a guide, i would you guild wars wiki, they are listed on the guild wars website. they have most anything you would need to know. |

In addition to the above advice.
ID everything white, blue, purple, Yellow*gold*, oragne with green polkadots...it adds the the value of the item when u go to sell it to the mrechant. As far as salvaging goes....check out wiki site listed above and look for what types of materials you will need to have for your "max" armor...then collect those that u need and sell/merchant the others that u don't need or keep them in your storage. Salvage and Expert Salvage kits have a HUGE difference...salvage kits will give you the normal materials from an item...like an axe will give you iron...but if u use an expert kit it has the "chance" to give you iron or STEEL..also if an item has a mod on it like say +30 hps then the expert kit also has a chance at salvaging that mod so u can use it on another item or sell it to someone else. If you have any questions...feel free to contact me in game... Coridan A ... is my characters name..I am on most evenings after 6pm EST. A couple of other nice tips... To see active quests...
