Default Sometimes ranged skills don't activate?

I can be in a battle firing my ranged weapon (or at least the animation indicates I'm firing) and yet when I try to do a ranged skill (attack) with that weapon, like hunter's shot with my bow, nothing happens. The skill doesn't activate, my player doesn't try to move into range, there is no message that I have an invalid target or am obstructed and yet my player continues to fire the ranged weapon at the target. If I want the skill to work I will have to move my player and then try again. This has happened with both bows and spears. It is an annoyance more than anything else, but it can be a bummer as sometimes I've missed the fact that the skill hasn't activated.

My guess is I'm out of range. But if I'm out of range why do I continue to attack with that weapon?

I've had this happen also. I often encounter it in FoW Forest, by the f2 entrance, on the little "hill" attacking the Sheperds.

This happens to me in AB. I just assumed i was lagging. But then my character would still repsond to wasd, and once I'd moved i could fire. Its an annoyance when you miss your interupt because of it.

yea, ive been getting this too and its especially annoying when i end up missing an interrupt or some other crucial moment. i usually notice this when i'm right at the edge of my bow's range, sometimes i can fire the bow but i can't activate my bow attacks. just move up a little or strafe and you should be fine.

This has happened to me a lot too. My skills just stop working until I move around a bit. It's most annoying when a team depends on you to keep someone shut down, or when you're fighting to stay alive.

I'd really like to know the reason for this though... since it does seem like your normal attacks do something rather than being completely obscured.

Same thing happens to me alot too. Just have to move closer to the target and then they start working again for me.

This is a known issue, has been reported many times, and unfortunately... still happens. :/

No knowing if it'll ever be fixed. We just have to live with it for now.

It seems to involve obstacles, like rocks or the top of a hill. And yes it can be a pain when the interrupt doesn't interrupt. I've only noticed this over the past few months, can't say how many, and don't remember it happening say like 6 months ago. Hopefully they figure it out and get it fixed.

I think it's related to path-finding.

Whenever your character needs to move in range, GW will attempt to calculate the path to location where this skill can be activated.

Unfortunately, many maps have faulty collision detection, so path-finding silently fails. This causes the skill to abort.

Happens to me in any area. Even if there are no obstacles it happens. Way too frequently to be comfortable too.

This shit happenz in FoW sao many times i dont even count it any more....
annoing shit to solo ranger farm with poison arrow and when it doesnt activate but just attacks normally.... CRAP.

This happens a lot, I'm pretty sure this happens because you are out of range to use skills... the only time I have noticed this with is a longbow (dont use any flatbows) all you have to do is inch up a lil bit and your back into Skill range.

Yep I agree, I have many times been using a short bow with the mob right beside me and could not int spells becuase distracting shot or savage shot would not activate but, my char just kept on firing arrows and showing damage to the mob.

Hopefully they will take a look at this soon.

Yes i've had this too, very annoying when you go for an interupt and nothing happens, most of the time the character will just move forward until they are in range, but just occasionally the skill button will just flicker and the shot does not go. I've actually lost halls once because the interupt didnt work.

isnt it becuase you are out of aggro cirlcle?, to use skills etc you gotta be in the aggor cirlce, cuz wen i used 2 barrage in tombs, and fiery down from a height, i could never use barrage..i never figured out why, then i realised, i gotta be in aggro cirlce to use it.

i get the problem too, but its not because of the aggro radius. i always use barrage far from the aggro circle but it seems when there is a gap between you and the target, your attack skills dont work. for example, i was doing a b/p run in sorrows furnace and i couldnt use attack skills over the large pits or from very elevated positions, but i could still hit them with my bow....extremley annoying. seems to happen most when you are at a higher elevation than your target. but in that case, if your arrows can connect to the target, why dont the skills activate?

Happens here too. Very frustrating but is usually fixed by simply moving closer. The pathing explanation seems to be the right one and we all know GW doesn't exactly have flawless pathing by any means. Until a radical fix is employed for the global pathing we'll just have to suck it up I guess.
