Is there a way to play MP3s in Guild Wars?
When I played the original Everquest game years back, I remember it having a handy little mp3 player that was great for listening to anything you wanted to while playing.
I would think that GW would have some sort of way to play music files in the program itself other than alt+tabbing into windows media. Which gets annoying and can sometimes get laggier than desired. Any suggestions? |

To my knowledge there is no way to play mp3's in GW itself. Most simply use a media player, and make sure that the songs/playlist they use isn't one thats going to use bandwith on codecs or bog down your computer with video clips.

I see where you are coming from, some kind of MP3 control ingame would be convenient. But still, aren't regular GW tunes jammin enough?

Perhaps you could minimize the Guild Wars screen a bit so that you could change programs easier? That's what I do. Easier to browse web + change music + IM + other stuff.

I try to use iTunes to listen to music, but it corrupts my audio and makes everything in-game and out sound scratchy... kinda weird. :P

So far there is no way to play mp3's in GW, but you can always play them in media player, if it lags while you are playing then I suggest switching off the visualizations. And if it still lags try to find a different media player that might run smooth with GW. I usually just minimize WMP when I'm playing GW and want to listen to some music.

I play MP3s in GW two ways.
1 - Winamp running in the background, using keyboard controls to change songs etc 2 - Which may not be entirely legal, so I haven't posted any info about it, I've modded DirectSong to play MP3s directly ingame. |

After I've played through an area once with the normal music, I'll usually listen to MP3s any time I go back to that area. Luckly my computer is good enough that I can play winamp in the background without any problems. Livingston Last edited by Livingston; Jan 13, 2007 at 07:36 AM // 07:36.. |

I play guildwars in window. Just so i have the task bar at the bottom to do things such as browse web, music, im. Nothin like browsin the web while waiting for the rest of your group to form. Only reason i play in window. Takes to long to alt tab out of maximized gw

They need to get on the ball and add something in game, it would be great.

Something like mp3 controls in game would destroy the market for Direct Song (even though I can't imagine the market to be very big to begin with).

I play Guild Wars in a window, with Winamp playing music in the background.

I usualy just turn my stereo on and listen to it except when I am on Vent or TS, then I have to turn it down or I get too much noise.

I had never even heard of Direct Song before today, that is probably the worst thing I have heard about ArenaNet since I have been playing GW. |

How is DirectSong a bad thing? If you like the music in GW, and feel like upgrading it to the Special Edition Music, you pay the money and do so. If you don't want it, you don't need to buy it. |

Try this:
- Open winamp and SWITCH TO WINAMP CLASSIC SKIN. This way you'll use less cpu power and less memory. Play your fave mp3s. -Open GW and under settings, drop your Background Music volume to zero or move the slider to the far left. |

I use Winamp to play music, and the Global Hotkeys to switch tracks (if a gabber track (for example) comes up in Pre-Searing, i'd rather switch to some Trance... )

Don't use Winamp, it slows your performance down, use RealPlayer. You can play music on it with GW maximized and your performance doesn't change at all, and RealPlayer opens and plays quick. I love RealPlayer. It's free, too.
