Nevermind done it already !
I decided to move/cut the files across to the new location/drive then i opened regedit (start > Run > "regedit") and searched for "guild" withing my machines registry. i changed all the file pathes from "C:\program files\Guild wars" to the new location. Changed the path of all my shortcuts - n Jobs a Gooden PS - once you have edited the 1st location that regedit has found just press F3 to make it carry on searching for "guild" ... Keep searching until it promts you that it has finished searching through the entire registry. Hope this answers your question as it did my own |

All you really need to move from one folder to another is the "Gw.dat" file in C:\Program Files\Guild Wars, or wherever you installed it to. You can get the client easily off of guildwars.com.

Just run the client installation from the site on the new drive and drop the "Guild Wars.dat" file from the old installation into the new one. The problem is that it is huge. Burning it to a DVD isn't a bad idea. Can save you some reinstallation time.

I haven't had to do any of that. Just move the directory and when you start guild wars it will ask what the install directory is, then click ok and it updates itself. I've had to reinstall my OS 2 times in the last week, I copied GW to another drive before I reformatted and have been running it from there ever since, never reinstalled.

This is the first game that I've ever seen do this and really thank Anet for this. I wish other game developers would do this. It saves sooooooo much time when you reinstall your OS. |

Another trick for reinstalling, or installing multiple computers.
Keep a copy of the install.exe or the disc you used. Before installation, make a copy of your GW folder. Install to new location(drive or other PC), when updates start, cancel them move whole GW folder to new location. You're basically letting the install exe do the registry work for you, and bypassing the downloading of all kinds of content. This works for most games that don't require a key for installation, as more and more mmorpgs are doing with relating keys to logins. |
