Tamed a Moa Bird in 'The Great Northern Wall"..turned out to be a strider.
Hey there. Recently I remade my ranger for the third time. He originated in Elona but immigrated to Cantha and Tyria. I decided to myself to get a Moa Bird as my pet, after trying a normal tiger from the Shing Jea Area.
I thought to myself 'Why not go pure beast master?'...so I did. Got a good build, excluding the elite that I needed and then I headed off (Well ran off, being led by my lovely guild mate Krissy ) to Ascalon. So, I arrived - Couldn't be fussed exploring 'Old Ascalon' for a Moa, so I went into the Great Northern Wall Mission outpost. I awaited a guild mate who prior told me how to 100% guarantee a dire pet within 40minuites. So, after adding Dunkoro to my party, making 3 of us - I then removed all of his skills *but* ressurect. So, there was the 3 of us - We spoke to the captain to open the gate, and my friend told me to aggro the Moa after killing the devourers. So I aggro'd the Moa, Ran north a little to avoid guards from killing it(which late turned out they don't kill it). I followed my friend Mark's instructions and flagged Dunkoro, put him on avoid combat, took off all my armor and then began to tank the Moa. The plan was to let the Moa re-kill me over and over before I tame it - so it will level up every so often and eventually become a dire when it hits level 15. So after about 40 minutes of dying to a Moa Bird and watching it level - It hit level 15. It's name didn't change until I tamed it. So- I tamed it. I was suprised to see that it's name was 'Dire Strider' . My question is - Why does the name show as 'Strider'? It was a Moa Bird until I tamed it. Is there any difference whatsoever between Moa Birds and Striders? Thanks alot to all those who could be bothered to read my pointless explanation before skipping to the question in bold Ashleigh PS: According to Wiki, Striders are significantly larger than Moa Birds. Can anyone approve/disprove this? My ranger prior to my current one had a hearty Moa bird and it was obviously larger than the level 5 ones. It's the same with my current Dire Strider (Moa if you want to call it :/ )...It's hard not to notice how much it's grown. Thanks again. |

there really isn't any difference between the two. in fact, i believe if you tame a strider, change its name, and then change it back to default, it will default into "moa bird". however, i'm not really sure about it.

Striders are the pre-searing version of moa-birds, so im not that surprised there are some conflicts with the moa bird and strider names.

Strange. I am wondering why a Moa Bird changed to a strider the second I tamed it though.
Can anyone answer that? Thanks Ashleigh |

The evolution goes like this:
lvl 1-2: Strider lvl 3-10: Moa Bird lvl 11-14: Playful/Aggressive Strider lvl 15-20: Hearty/Elder/Dire Strider They grow at level 11 and 15. I don't think there is a size difference between the pre- and post-searing ones, but I can't say for certain. |

Hehe..Nope
Black Moas have a elder (unevolved) evolution. The damage bonus from dire is really quite necessary for my build The questions still open Thanks Ashleigh Quote:

They are the same beastie and just grow as they evolve like the rest of the Prophecies pets. I have a ranger with one plus his heroes all have them and see 3 different heights depending on the level of the bird of the particular hero in use. All of them are just meat shields so developing hearty.
