Default Whould that kind of program ever exist?

Hello!

Well was wondering...it be cool to have a program we could download, this program will let us creat a character whit hairstyle/face + armor you want,so you dont have to take the risk when buying armor, cuz even on Wiki, they maybe dont have same hair/face than you'r character and all.The program whould be like downloadable and like you cant go Online on it,it like a "editor" just to look how you'r character whould look like!I think it be pretty awsome.

As for me i cant really creat that kind of program(im 14 lol) but im sure some pro out here could creat a program like that ^^Or maybe it exist already?

~Kaz(srry for bad english,2nd language..)

I understand what you mean,a 3d version of this might be hard because we have no any of those infos, but i don't see why a high quality picture version couldn't be made, make screens of all the armors , faces and hairs separately and then make the program that you can swap them .

I'm pretty sure A.Net has copyrighted their work...

Yeah, there's no way they didn't copright all that, so Anet would have to make this program.

Someone could make the programs... but not distribute the program with the artwork needed. Thats a way around the copyright

Actually taking pictures and adding them in a program and offer it on fan sites free wouldn't violate any copyright.

i'm wondering if anet would ever release something like that. i know cryptic (another ncsoft managed company) released a program for costume design for city of heroes so you can make your character without actually being on the game.

Very hard to do.
ANet package all their data in a giant GW.dat file. Unlike WoW, which uses seperate .mpq files, it's very hard to do any reverse-engineering of the code.

I know what you mean though. Someone made WoWModelViewer, which is great for checking out characters

Why would you distribute it with the graphics ?

Only guild wars players would want this program, and they already have the graphics files sitting inside the gw.dat file. So just figure out where they are, check the registry to see where guild wars was installed (or ask the user to tell you), then go load them from the gw.dat file

Reverse-engineering is against almost every EULA I've read, with the exceptions being open source software, so without checking I'm assuming its also against the Guild Wars EULA. Though I think there may be some legal jurisdictions where you have the right to reverse engineer software even when the EULA says otherwise (and some where the EULAs aren't legally binding anyway as you never actually signed anything). So if your thinking about doing this and making it public, consult a lawyer before someone sends one to you.

Yeah, reverse engineering is illegal and is probably the wrong word for that context.
But my point is the same - if you want to do any work on the GW.dat file, it's annoying to have it all in one, giant lump

Distribute it meaning if you needed to extract it or take screenshots of it... as you said its against the EULA to reverse engineer the files.
