Equipped Weapons Viewable in Towns - Guild Wars Forums

I was in Ascalon City a few days ago and was just switching between my different swords... seeing how they looked in my Inventory window... to decide which one I wanted to use. Then, someone whispered "Hey... that's a nice sword... could I have it?".

Usually I would just ignore... but since I was in Ascalon City I figure I would check to see if it was a new player needing help. I found him standing nearby and saw he was level 5. So I figure I would help the person out, opened trade and gave him one of my swords.

He then messaged me saying "Can I have the one that I saw with the Defence mod on it instead?". I figured... why not... so I opened trade with him again and he gave me back the other one and took the sword with the Defence mod on it.

Afterwards... I was thinking... "How did he know my sword had a Defence mod on it??". I figure the person was just randomly guessing and trying to scam people and just brushed it off. Now I'm wondering if it's possible to view what weapon a person has equipped in towns.

So... is this possible or was this just a random scammer?

Um,..it's not possible to see any weapon on any person in town or outpost.
Have you been trying to sell or trade them before? Or somehow put in the detail of the weapons in trade or all chat window, then forget about it?

Nope... haven't tried to sell or trade it before... and didn't put anyting into chat/trade window.

Yeah... that was my original guess too after it happened. Thought I would ask anyways in case there was something I didn't know about. Quite frankly I didn't care about the sword which is why it didn't bother me to give it away - but I thought I was giving it to help a new player and not some loser that has nothing better to do than go around trying to scam others. Oh well...

Sounds like a random scammer, but I have heard of it happening so must be a frequent occurence
