Running...
I've been running to sanctum kay for free when I'm bored lately because I always die just once. No matter what it always happens. I'd like to start charging people, but if I charge people, I can't die, right?
Like if you wanted a run to a place, and if the person died and they were still making you pay, what would you think? I don't want to charge people if i'm going to die everytime. I never die more than once, but I'd still feel stupid making people pay even if I died just once. Do you think I might be able to make people pay or keep doing them for free until I start doing it not dying? |

What are you running as? My ranger's never died on that run, she uses escape, dodge, zohjun's haste, whirling defense, holy veil and a few other bits. But I don't think many people will pay to have a runner that dies on them

I'm running as a D/A, here are my skills:
[skill]Shadow Refuge[/skill][skill]Swap[/skill][skill]Harrier's Haste[/skill][skill]Dash[/skill][skill]Death's Charge[/skill][skill]Avatar of Balthazar[/skill][skill]Faithful Intervention[/skill][skill]Feigned Neutrality[/skill] Shadow Arts 12 Wind Prayers 4 Mysticism 12 600 health and 34 energy I think I need to put in another healing skill where swap is since it's pretty much useless? I always die of poison in I think it's Nebo Terrance right before I reach the portal. Quote:

If the runner dies, it's not exactly confidence inspiring. Most pro runners i know (myself included) will not charge for the run if they die. It's "bad form" to die on a run, and not good for reputation or dignity. Most runs (except maybe droks) are completely non-die-runnable and so if you do perish along the way, it shows a lack of skill etc. Whether it was just a crummy spawn of the cripple-giving dogs in the black curtain or a nasty wurm + orge beatdown in the desert, it's still very bad form to die.
The sanctum cay run is 100% runnable without dying. I think in my hundreds of runs, i've died maybe twice and thats generally due to someone else trying to run with me and doing bad spawns (i always tell people not to run with me before we start, but sometimes that just doesn't stop 'em). There's only one place where death is even really possible on a sanctum run and thats right as you enter the cursed lands. There's a narrow valley to the right and unless you beat the grasping spawns, you can get bogged down and ripped a new one. Rubber-banding is also a threat down there, but it's only rarely been a problem for me. If you're dying, it's because you are using a bad build unsuitable for the run. The sanctum needs good amounts of health regen to counter the poison, condition removal to deal with the pin-downs and cripples and some good constant run skills. I use escape, zojuns haste, dodge, mending, holy veil, purge conditions, smite hex, healing breeze. Fast and very very effective. I've used the build to run every single run thats runnable except droks. Last edited by azathothx; Mar 10, 2007 at 10:35 AM // 10:35.. |

Best way to practise is running guildies/going solo - that's the way I learned Not much point practising in Ascalon as the enemies are lower level and don't have the same attacks.

heres a build i use on my dervish for running:
D/A Dark Escape Dash Harrier's Haste Faithful Intervention Mystic Regeneration Fleeting Stability [In knockdown heavy areas, i use natural healing if not running droks ^.^] Vow of Silence {E} Death's Charge [to get un-stuck if you rubber-band] I think the Sanctum cay run is about the only run my ranger ever did until i got Tyrian Grandmaster Cart. And for that, unless i absolutely had to fight through the mission (or areas such as the Icedome) i ran it. It helps you to find a build combination that works for you if you try to run diffrent areas with the same build. mix and match till you find one that works. |

Who cares if you die once or maybe even twice on a run? As long as they get there right? I'm not sure where you are starting your run (I'm assuming LA)
When I run, I very rarely die (if I do, it is because of rubberbanding back into a mob and getting bodyblocked or a having my Ping shoot up to like 40,000 with 1 FPS). That is what I am trying to say. Someone can be a super pro, know the route, know the patrols, safe spots, etc, but every so often you get that uncontrollable element. If you are doing it for Free, no one should be complaining. If you start charging, I would recommend telling them beforehand. It will at least show that you are honest. If you want to go one step further, I would continue to work at it and find out what causes you to die and counter that. I think if anybody has trouble on that run, it may be in the area between Fisherman's haven and Sanctum. That area around Sanctum and Fisherman's Haven is pretty heavy on snares, enchantment removals, and hexes. You don't really have anything in your build to counter any of those. I don't have a Dervish, so I can't really say much, but Vow of Silence or maybe even Dwayna may work fairly well in that area. Just to keep in mind. Anyways, if you charge, most people expect to get you from point A --> B quickly, which usually means without dieing. There are a lot out there that don't care how long it takes as long as they get there, but that number is far less. It sounds like you definitely got about everything down. Just need to find a way around the spot you are dieing. Keep chucking away and you should have no problems. - Aldoros of Faydark |
