No, bosses don't always drop green items, it's random. You might get it first try or a few or I've known guildies to try dozens of times before it finally drops the green they are looking for.

no they don't always drop them. keep in mind that it could eb dropping for your heroes or the henchies. Best suggestion try and develop a build to solo him or bring as few heroes/henchies as possible to increase chance that it drops for you. Or do it with guildmates or something.

You could also have the heroes help you get to the boss or even weaken him. Before you kill him flag your heroes out of radar range so their names are grayed out then they are too far away for them to take the drop from you.
I heard that the drop rate of a green is around 4-5%. |

Drop rate for green items is very low to start with, if you bring henchies or a full party, you'll have to consider that the chance of the item dropping for you will be lower since it could drop for anyone. If you can solo the boss, I'd advise doing so, otherwise if you can guildies are often the best solution or as few henchies as possible. If the stats for the sword are the only thing that interest you, check the list of green weapons on guildwiki to see if there's a replacement green sword with the same stats that could be easier to get.

I'll give you a recent example which might be typical of what is required to obtain a specific green weapon.
I wanted to get the green scythe 'Bubahl's Grasp' for my dervish because it is an ebon weapon (earth damage), to go along with the elite skill Ebon Dust Aura. Fortunately the boss Bubahl Icehands is in the Marga Coast not far out from Nundu Bay. I set out from Nundu Bay initially with 3 heroes and 4 henchies, killed Bubahl, no drop, no surprise. I went out again and again, each time reducing the number in the party until I reached the point where I could not always defeat Bubahl Icehands. The minimum team was me, Dunkoro and Olias (minion master). Lots of people could do this solo but I'm not good enough. I then killed Bubahl again and again and again until I got my green scythe. I actually lost count but I think it was maybe between 20 and 25 times. It was boring but on the plus side I accumulated quite a bit of gold and other loot. |

No, it is totally random but having no other people or the people are out of range(greyed out on the party menu) increases the chance of getting the green item.
