Question What? I wasted money?

After reviewing the press and topics I was wondering if I bought Guild Wars: NF it would be a waste.I bought Factions not too long ago so far I enjoy it. I have also noticed dervish characters in factions.
So now I wonder, should I wait for GW2 or go ahead and upgrade to NF?
If I do go for NF it brings up another question. Can I use my Prophcies and Factions character's in it? And vise versa?

All of the Guild Wars chapters interract, just make sure to merge the Nightfall account when you get it.

And keep in mind that GW2 is over a year away. LOTS of time to play and enjoy Nightfall if you choose to buy it.

Yes your characters here can go there and they can come here but only if you link the game to your existing account.
GW2 won't be out for 2 years so enjoy GW1 now if you like the other you will like NF too. NF let's you use heroes that will help you with missions in the other 2 chapters.

GW2 won't be released for a few years.

You can use any character in any campaign as long as you have that campaign on your account.

As the others have said, there is plenty of time until GW2 comes out, so feel free to buy NF if you think you will enjoy it. Just be absolutly sure to add it to your existing account and not create a new account with the key.

Consider a book you have never read, just because another book is going to be written and published sometime well over a year from now, does that preclude or negate the value of the book at hand?

I have all three chapters and intend on getting the global expansion when it's released in 8-9 months or so. Heroes make Nightfall a worthy addition to the game even if you considered nothing else.

A game is only as valuable as its experience for the player.

The book at hand? I dunno if it was such a great idea releasing information on GW:EN and GW2 around the same time. If they hadnt released info on GW2, I would have got GW:EN, but im not so sure now. I think that there will be a fair number of people that wont get GW:EN when they know that in a couple years it will be obsolete. Your book example doesnt work if the second book doesnt make the first book obsolete.

Plus, there are so many extra's for the first 3 games, unless you play 20 hours a day 7 days a week, there is no way you have found every hidden extra. Theres ALWAYS something to do.

No, I think ANet made a wise move, they are building momentum. They placed a very dynamic and ambitious plan all out on the table for everyone to see.

They announce a large global expansion for the Guild Wars Trilogy while at the same time make public their plans for a second generation game in the Guild Wars franchise. The MSNBC article nicely meshes into all the reasoning behind their decisions. It comes across very clear that ANet is basing its decisions on what it feel the player base wants.

Guild Wars won't be/can't become obsolete unless they shut the servers down, and they aren't going to do that anytime soon. Each subsequent chapter didn't make the prior campaign "obsolete", sure it refocused attention but Prophecies is still going strong whenever I log into to play. The same will hold true for the next stage of Guild Wars.

I stopped playing Guild Wars for 11 months and picked it up again and started playing. The game doesn't become obsolete just because the franchise grows. I think the book analogy holds up well to scrutiny.

Guild Wars 2 is being built upon the very world that the original Guild Wars fleshed out.

It's the brave new world of gaming: The Guild Wars Trilogy will long remain as an adventure that people may want to jump into by themselves or with friends. The three campaigns will stand together as a really cool gaming experience for people to revisit or play for the first time. ANet will continue to run the servers and scale the resources accordingly because the Guild Wars Trilogy is the gateway to the growing Guild Wars franchise.

Even when GW2 comes out, people who are playing it for the first time, are going to be going back and buying the original game, so I expect to see the original trilogy to be hanging around for many years after the last chapter has been written.

Theres no doubt that it will still be up and running for a long time, but the new game will/should have so many new and better features, making it better, and therefore transferring a lot of players from the original set to the new one.

Obviously Factions and NF didnt make Prophecies obsolete, there just an add-on, they are still linked to eachother. Im not 100% sure what GW2 will do to link GW1 chars to GW2 chars, but you will not be able to go to Tyria.

Yes there are a lot of people in Tyria, a lot of people started on the other campaigns and then got Prophecies. Also, a lot of people go there to finish up, people go there to finish with there characters from other campaigns, people go there because they like it better than Elona or Cantha. There are plenty of reasons people go to Tyria, since they are linked games, the second two didnt make the first one obsolete.

Also, all that hall of monuments stuff that allows you to bring some things from GW to GW2? That's only accessible from Eye of the North. So hey, I'm all over that personally. It's been touted as a way to reward people who have been around and were in GW1, so it would be a shame not to do it. IMO.

That's possible too. 2008 beta, 2009 the earliest for GW2, correct?
