Thinking of Starting GW
Hello,
I am considering switching from Knight Online to GW. GW looks like an awesome game but I have a few honest questions. 1. I have 4 people that will be playing, can I buy 1 copy of the game and create 4 new accounts with that or do I need 4 different auth codes? 2. Is there alot of cheating? 3. Is the Server satble? I am switching to a new game based on knightonlines server downtime and constant cheating that ruins gameplay for all honest gamers. Myself my wife and 2 kids play KO currently, its like our monopoly time as soon as the good people here can answer these basic questions I can decide to go with WOW or GW. Thanks in advance for you posting. |

1: when you buy a campaign you get 4 character slots and you get 2 more for each additionl campaign. each person who is playing could use 1 slot. if you want your own accounts then you will need 4 different codes.
2: guild wars is very balanced, but watch out for some cheap teams in organized PvP. 3: the server is stable for me. if you have a slow computer you may lose connection though. |

1: if you buy one copy of gw you only have 1 account... but you can make4 toons on one account..... if you want seprate accounts you will need to purchase 3 more games.
2: no there is no cheating.... you may come across the odd scammer but the trade system is pretty good...if you get scammed its your own fault. 3: yes the server is stable. id pick gw over wow anyday.... |

1) You can create up to 4 characters on one account, but only one of them can be online. If you want 4 accounts you need 4 keys.
2) There is virtually no cheating in GW. At least not in PvP where it matters. There are some "bots" for farming, but they don't affect competitive play. 3) The servers are generally very stable. Some people complain about frequent disconnects, but you never know whether the problem is on the server side, client side, or anywhere inbetween. Simply give GW a try and judge for yourself. You should be able to get a 10 day free trial key from somebody. There are plenty around. (Sorry, I already gave mine to a buddy.) |

1. How is the Customer service should we need help with different problems that arise. 2. I there a language barrier? 3. We do have decnet pc's all 4 of us run 2.8 ghz with 512 ram but none as of yet have good graphic cards(they are coming soon). I also have cable internet thats 6.0. Will these PC's suffice? |

1) I don't know. I never ran into any problem serious enough to require assistance. But there is a pretty comprehensive FAQ and knowlegde database on the NCsoft support website.
2) GW currently supports 10 languages. On the Europe server there are different "districts" for the different languages. On the American server it's all English. Where are you located? 3) GW is known to run very well on rather old hardware. My own PC is more than 3 years old (AMD 1.7 GHz, 1 GB RAM, Geforce 3 Ti 64MB) and it runs GW okay. Framerate is well playable and the game looks beautiful. By cable internet "6.0" you mean a 6 Mbit connection? That should be well enough for 4 players. If anything, you may want to get some more RAM. |

If you have trouble getting a free trial account key online, consider this:

You can get info on gameplay, professions, and beginner areas at http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page as far as that type of support goes.
For problems in-game, the support site for the game company is at plaync.com That site is used for technical questions, reporting infractions of the EULA and reporting glitches. Response is not immediate and is done through email. There is a FAQ on that site, which covers most of the common questions. Integrated video (on-board) has been know to affect the game. A good add-on video card solves a lot of problems although a top-end one is not needed. You can check out this site's tech forum for advice on equipment and what to avoid. |

Customer support is awesome in my experience. I contacted them a year ago when i was getting too much lag after switching from 56k to broadband. The communication was through email but they were very helpful and knowledgeable. Last edited by sumasage; Apr 11, 2007 at 04:30 PM // 16:30.. |

If it helps I ran GW on 512 ram for about 3 or 4 months without any problem due to half of my memory corrupting. There was occassional lag when entering a new zone (5 or 6 seconds or so) but nothing that will majorly affect game play. As has already been posted, if you're looking to play online at the same time, you'll need a copy of the game for each of you.
and no you dont need the CD to play once the games installed |

Agreed with Rothen. 512k is more then enough RAM to run GW properly.

You can also buy the game(s) for $29.99 (Prophecies Game of the Year edition) direct from https://secure.plaync.com/cgi-bin/Store.pl
Buying the box with the CDs doesn't save you much time when downloading the game agent as the game has had numerous changes since the box CD was made. The easiest way to get it onto 4 computers would be to install or download (depending on purchase method) complete to one computer, burn the dat file to a CD and copy to the other units after install of the gw.exe file. The original download (even at 6MB) can take hours. After that, periodically, your firewall will tell you when there have been changes and you will have a short (30sec to 20min) update download. ArenaNet is constantly making changes which are listed in the update announcements. |

Your PCs will do fine, even if they have Intel graphics cards. I managed with 3Ghz, 512 RAM and a 192MB Intel...thing....for about 9 months ^^
The customer service has been extremely prompt when I have asked a question, and they also have a large knowledge base that answers most questions on their site |

i dont know what knights online is like, but i came from Dark Age of Camelot (5 years) and world of warcraft (2 years)
this game is VERY primitive compared, i havnt dabbled into pvp yet, as me and my gf are just learning the ropes a bit, but it lacks most of the common features from a good mmorpg...from filters, interface, camera features etc etc you cant even see the proffesion/lvl of your guildmates in the guild window, at least as far as i know, just tons of simple things seem missing questing is rather well done, via the map, graphics are ok, but spell effects blow when i told my girlfriend i didnt know if i like it, she said "we just spent over 100 dollars on this, so you better like it" so i guess i'll like it i'm just hoping it gets better one thing i hope they add is player sounds, after 2 years of WoW the world here just seems strangely silent |
