Default New Player, confused..

Just started running GW this morning.

I've read a few online guides that state you should collect everything you find and feed any general junk to NPC vendors.

In-game, I asked where one was and 1 person said "No such thing as an NPC vendor".

Are there or are there not NPC Vendors? And if not, what am I to do with this junk in my inventory?

Also, what's the best overall class to start with/learn the game with?

I started a necro and have run into some pretty rough spots.

the NPC you want to talk to is the "merchant". whoever told you that piece of crap is a moron.

as for best class... there really isn't one. go with whatever you like.

1) There are NPC vendors. If you got the original GW ("Prophecies", as some call it), you will only see some vendors at the moment like Merchants and Weaponsmiths. Later on there are MANY more types of vendors, such as Material Traders and such.

2) There is no "best overall class" to start with, IMO. Prophecies/Nightfall are the best to play first if you are new to the game though, as Factions rushes you through newbiehood.

Here is a link to guildwiki.org http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page
at the moment the best guide in existence.

Guildwiki is a great resource for information on all things GW. Yes, be sure to pick up all the drops, but part of the challenge of the game is knowing what you'll need (materials for armor, what collectors items can get you, etc.) One thing - of you've got the original, Prophecies, DO NOT SELL ANY DYES UNTIL YOU FIND A DYE TRADER!!!

Congrats! You've found you're first in-game idiot. Sorry, there's quite a few of them floating around. There are different vendors in towns, merchants, dye traders, material traders, ect. to find NPCs just press and hold the "alt" tab and look around. As for the junk, check guildwiki to find out what you need to keep for getting armor, get rid of most everything else.

Many people start with a Warrior or Ranger. After that, Monk or Ele would be good. I can't say about Necros, never played one. But Mesmers are probably the hardest to learn, since you have to know so much about the other classes as well to play one well.

Guildwiki calls them vendors instead of merchants because there are various types of traders.

So here is some info

Don't sell crafting materials, rare materials, dyes, runes or insignias to the "merchant." There are traders for those things who may give you far more than the merchant will.
