From what I understand, the loot from the chests are entirely random. You could be having a really unlucky streak. Besides, I doubt that Anet has any reason to want to nerf any sort of treasure chest drops at this point.

They said that if you open them on a regular basis the drops will get worse.

I think Gaile said you should start opening the Treasures in more difficult regions first, because later you will get more purples than in the beginning.

You only waited 3 weeks and still got anything...wow! I thought you had to wait at least 30 days before trying again.
With one of my characters, i still cant open the treasure for a third time, even after 2 months. I cant even get a purple. Just remember that the treasures are very random in both times that you can open them again and in what you get from them. Generally i wait 6 to 8 weeks each time and so far have always got gold items and the usual amount of gold to go with it. My advice would be to wait longer before trying them again next time.

Why is it soon as people have a bit of bad luck they think A.net has nerfed something?

I have opened all chests twice. All gold. It has been 2 months+ since I was able to open one.

From a discussion somewhere else around here, I understood that you get good stuff first tims you open the chests. Less good stuff the next time, and so on.
Only opened 2 treasures so far (torment and desolation), because I've been too lazy. ^_^ But I got golds, and I never bothered to check for the cash. |

Defend them if you want...IT WAS A NERF!!
When the treasures first appeared, I went to Guildwiki and researched it as thoroughly as the site would allow. It made ABSOLUTELY no mention of anything except GOLD and GOLD items. Further, it stated that the chest in each area could only be opened once per character on each account.
I quickly took all of my characters to every chest that they had access to and collected my loot. I passed the information around to my guildies and even to unknown players. I went so far as to run free tours to get people their treasures. whereupon, I noticed that the chests had been "reset". I collected my loot a 2nd time, ALL GOLD!! I've collected the loot from the Mehtani Keys to inside the Vortex, and NEVER got a purple until this past "reset". I have 18, count them, EIGHTEEN characters!! When I got my 1st purple, I went to Guildwiki, and guess what I found? A MODIFIED Treasure information page. Guild Wars(ANET) DID IT AGAIN. They have become quite adept at using the "Bait and Switch" tactic on us. The only thing that they overlook is, there are a lot of us who have a tad bit of intelligence, and regardless of their denials, we know better. And YES, before anyone jumps up and says it. ANET didn't have to "GIVE" us the Treasures. They did it out to the kindness of their hearts. They also, DIDN'T have to start us with one thing and quietly try to downgrade it to something so totally sub-par. Like I said, they have a BEAUTIFUL track record of doing things like this. Just to name a few: 1. Drop rates-when any new item/mode is introduced the rate is high, that rate drops off exponentially and someone says it's based on a player's "luck". It is quite a coincidence how all of us can have basically the same "bad" luck at exactly the same time, just after hitting a string of decent drops when they introduce something new(or rather, how a great many of us can have the same "good" luck just after something new is introduced). 2. Ruined Economies-Just before Factions was released, the Prophecies economy headed down. Then we noticed that items that had always been harder to get in Tyria were dropping like candy in Cantha(remember Fur Squares). The prices for Tyrian items took a nose-dive. Runes and rare items drop quite frequently just outside Kaineng Center(for about 30 days). Take a good look at the prices now, EXACTLY the same thing is happening again. And what is coming?? GW:EN No, I'm truly sorry, if you want to believe that these are all just random acts of coincidence, then sit back and relish in your oblivion. This is a game, NOTHING just happens in it. Someone, or a group of someones, is pulling the strings. Regardless of their motivation, be it self-serving, or to appease a particular group of player type, they have time and time again demonstrated that they are completely out of touch the the playing community as a whole. |

The only thing I remember officially coming from ANET is that the more often you open the treasure chests the less good stuff you will get. Frankly I never opened the chests for the items, I wanted the easy 2-3k, and guess what, I still get an easy 2-3k from the chests. I know this may be hard for some people, but if you think this through logically, if you decided to hide your stuff, and it keeps getting stolen, are you going to keep putting good stuff there? Frankly I wouldn't put anymore stuff there because it isn't a very good hiding spot. But, luckily for us, someone keeps putting his stuff in the treasure chest in the middle of no where and I can keep taking it. I already took the person's good stuff, now he can only hide some crappy stuff, but now it is mine no matter what and I can get a little bit of money off of it from the merchant. |

At the time there was no official word that they would be permanent, if they were permanent that they would reset at all, or the rarity of the drops in the long term. The only way to know otherwise was to wait, which is what happened. Anet still hasn't given specific word on things like what really, truly, exactly recharges the treasures and what, really, truly, exactly makes them drop golds, purples, or a gem. Therefore, people can only speculate given the evidence from what they've experienced. That being said, you're a bit worked up there, buddy. It's just a game. Go for a walk or something, the air's good for you. |

As far as I can piece together, here is how it works:
These things were found in an update and we were told "once only" (and I do believe there was an official "once only", though I'm too lazy to hunt for it). People who had characters there went and opened them but many of us were not obsessed with it (personally I was going to wait until I really needed gold as I got one go only). After one large update someone noticed that their character could re-open them again. This is the so-called "reset". This was a true reset - my experience and others work this way too. You get so many chests with all gold with max gold given, after some point you start getting a chance at purples and less gold per chest. I've found that after the reset *everyone* gets the equivalent of one full go with all golds, after that you chance at golds start to drop and your GP/chest drops. Thus I no longer open low level chests until it starts dropping purples (and Gaile's advice follows with this). You can not take GuildWiki's ruminations as official word from Anet - if you do then you will be constantly lied too. As such I see no reason to complain and can not see how it is a "nerf". How can going from a single run to allowing multiple runs (even if those latter runs no longer drop all gold) be a nerf? That some assumed some really far out things with absolutely nothing other than some people think so - well just because I assume that me purchasing Vabbian armor for my Dervish will somehow carry over to GW2 doesn't mean it is a nerf when I find out otherwise. The GW community can be one of the worst I have dealt with - I suppose there is enough money to purchase the game that people expect things but with no monthly fee they are still cheap. Free gold, free weapons, and free chests somehow make one rage quit. Oh well. |

I offer this as my experience, not whining or complaining
I finally got my third go-around with one of my characters. I do periodically check if the chests reset. Third go-around, they have ALL been purple. And I've only been opening two per day, just in case there was any truth to the 'dont open them all at once' theory. Pretty sure you get worse drops each time you can open them. Doesn't really make much sense to me.......if they are supposed to be opened (as in CAN be opened), they should give you the same quality as the first go around. Or not. Whatever, it's just that Gaile is so clueless when she talks about this kind of stuff, and winds up misleading everyone. |

I didn't read everything, but the reason you had bad drops from them is most likely not because of a nerf, and not because you opened them last. The reason you got purples is due to the number of times you opened the chests. Your first two times (opening them and then opening them again a month later) you most likely got golds. Your third time you may get a few purples, or you may get all golds. As the number of times you open them increases, the chance of a gold and amount of platinum decreases. This pretty much a guess from what Anet (Gaile) said.
