Maybe you used a trial key when you played back then?
If so then it is definitely expired by now. You should try google to troubleshoot it, because there is probably someone with the exact same problem, and he may have written about it. You definitely wanna contact Customer Support . |

You need to contact support.guildwars.com and they will help you. This seems to be a common problem lately with re-installs of the game.
Be prepared to supply them with all your account info, and possibly scans of the original access key paper and the game box. While this can be time consuming, it's part of the ANet process to prevent account theft. You can only play with your friend if you both have the same chapter. (Unless you PvP.)

If you both have Nightfall then you can play together. If you have the orginal and he only has NF then you won't be able to play together.

And remember, if you get any of the other chapters (Nightfall or Factions), remember to add the key to the account you already have...
you may also want to check the keys already added to that account and if you only have a trial code attached, it could be as simple as using the wrong code from the box... I had a friend who realised he had done this recently. he added the full game key in the box and found his presear character had both a one and two year b'day present on his warrior... And a Gwen mini to boot (which he then gave to me when i stole his beer from the fridge) |
