does anyone know how many people play guild wars, is there even 1 million people playing, I MUST KNOW!!!!!

there are 3 million copies sold, but I doubt the people who are currently playing reach one million.

There are over 3 million copies sold. Since people don't pay to play there is no way to track accounts like in other games (though according to a reccent post by Galie, more people are playing now that HM has been introduced, so it seems like a.net can track how many people are playing when).

It's hard to tell how many people play at any given time since everybody is spread out and accross multiple districts and servers. A good estimation though is to look at how many districts are around during holiday events since most of the community is concentrated in a few towns (like 70 districts in Kamadon on Wintersday in American servers).

I'm slightly more optomisic then Thomas about the numbers currently playing. But only a.net knows for sure.
