Spamming question
The code of conduct states that "spamming of any kind is not allowed". Does this mean we cannot spam WTS in trade chat as well? Doing so seems to violate the code of conduct...

Hopefully they will update the rules then. I don't want to get suspended for spamming WTS Air Staff again.

You can message 'WTS product X' in trade channel, you can repost it once it is quite some lines (or time) ago that you posted it.
You can't SPAM: Meaning either WTS X WTS X etc. or message your advertisement each 5-10 seconds I think your questions should actually be: what is the definition of spamming. I assume one thing, but how do other people think it is defined? I hope this clear things up for you? |

I'm sure you heard about Anets latest update notes about spamming, and there efforts tor reduce it. You even mentioned it seemed to violate the conduct. Now perhaps you can understand why! You came knowing it was wrong, offered your own answer; and yet still wanted to get an answer. Thats pretty stupid to me. |

I don't and Anet doesn't have a problem with sending your message in Trade chat every 10-15 seconds really. The ones that are annoying are the ones in local chat and the ones that post their message 5 times in a row and also get rid of other people's messages by doing so.

Why don't you try the buy/sell section and auction here in guru? They're way better than wasting time selling in game, I've been using it for sometime. Very good for a piece of mind.

I was suspended for WTSing items in Kamadan 1, just as I've done for the past 2 years (maybe in lions/Kaineng/etc). The funny thing is that I havent even set foot in Kamadan or done anything other than pvp for the past 2-3 weeks.
I think Anet needs to post on their website, or as a login message that they're cracking down on WTS spam in all chat. There are still hordes of people who do it, largely because they're not aware that after years of playing that it's no longer condoned by Anet (and yes, not giving us a real economic transaction system means they codone mass WTS messages). PS - Roshi, thanks for the negative, needless BS posts. |

Stop trying to justify spamming. There is no way you can. Spamming should not be the normal course of action for any player, so the ones that do deserve what Anet does to them. Simple as that.

Also, spamming means you get the attention of more buyers compared to non spammers. If your messages are all over the place compared to everyone else's, they get viewed more. Therefore, sellers have a financial incentive here... A non-neanderthal trade system would solve the problem. I also use the trade finder thingy, but about 1% of people actually use it, so it's not helpful. |

Well, I don't regret it at all really. I made 1.5 million gold by just chest farming and spamming WTS for a few months (that was back before the economy was screwed up). Also, I will justify it by saying that until there is an auction house or something like that, GW is so poorly designed that it pushes players toward spamming. It's the only real option they give us for selling things. I could make one WTS message every 20 seconds, which is 1) a monumental waste of time, and 2) not fun since it means I have to sit around WTS-ing like three times longer than the already silly amount of time you have to invest in selling things in this game. |

Actually, those of us who hate the spammers will look at the party search window and then trade window first when we are looking for something to buy. I find the party search window to be the most convenient and it is sad that it is not used more than it is. I can search all open districts at the same time...how that concept has escaped the sellers is beyond me. Even as short as the thread is, if there is something I am interested in it is easy to whisper and ask questions.
Most of the time I search the auction site here, I know it is slow but it is still far superior to the spam and trying to sift through all the garbage in general chat. Unfortunately, the most common mindset I see with the people that spam is that they have rationalized to the point where they feel it is their right to spam, think it is their only option and that the rest of us are jerks to want it to stop. Spam has never been ok. It has never been the acceptable means of selling nor been condoned by a-net. Spammers have been allowed to get away with it far too long so they feel it is "acceptable" or their right. I for one applaud a-net for listening to the rest of us and cracking down on spam, particulary in the all chat window. If you did read what Gaile said, they are going to concentrated on all chat at this time, not trade chat. However, if traders are forced to use the tools provided them, they are going to have to figure out what will work and I can guaranty you that spam will not be your solution. |

even if there would be a financial incentive to spam, the rule was and is, that spam is not allowed.
There is also financial incentive to commit bankrobberies and other villainous crimes, it doesnt mean that they should be used as methods of gaining money and yes they are still illegal (and therefore punishable). |
