Nope - It won't let you have the quest to go to searing until you have chosen a 2nd profession. You will be able to change professions later in the game though.

After you ascend there will be NPCs in the desert who will give you quests that you can do in order to be able to change them to which ever you want. However, if you end up wanting to change it to Paragon, Dervish, Assassin, or Ritualist you have to go to that campaign and do the ascension there (I believe).

Ascension is getting the blessing of the gods. It enables you to get the two other quests that reward you the last 30 of your attribute points as well as changing your secondary and being eligible to enter Fow and UW (core elite areas).
To ascend you must beat the three missions in the desert and then your dopple, a mirror of you that's level 20 and uses the exact same skills that you bring. You aren't required to be a certain level ascend, though if you follow the storyline you will be level 20 or close to it by the time you make it to the desert. To read more about ascension you can go here. It sounds like you have a while to go before you have to worry about any of it, but if you need help in game feel free to pm me. IGN:Kelis Key. I'm generally on a few hours a day. |

^^ small correction
The 1st of the two 15 extra attribute points quests is available to you before you Ascend, the 2nd one isn't available til after. |

To sum up:
1) No, you can't wait to choose your second profession. 2) You CAN change your second profession. 2a) You're unable to change it until much later in the game; but once you get to that point, you can unlock all of the types, and change them whenever you're in a non-combat area (outpost or town). Advice: I ran into this problem on my dervish, and I was just stuck for something like two days after getting Nightfall because I just could -not- decide. Take whatever secondary you WOULD have taken as a primary if you didn't take Monk. Frex: if you were trying to decide between Monk, and Elementalist, and you chose Monk.. then make him a Monk/Elementalist. Don't worry about what skills, et cetera you're going to put into the secondary, you can just focus on your monk stuff for awhile until you figure something out. Or until you hit the desert and do the secondary profession quests and switch it to something else. ;D |
