In normal mode, it's not much trouble.
Put together a decent party. Since you need Koss, consider two nukers as company. Or the ever popular Minion Master. Next, it's only a matter of patience and care. The principle is to wait for the margonite "patrol" to arrive, kill it, and then quickly clear a static group of margonites or two. Progress through the corridor is no problem. Once you get to the top of the stairs, slow down. Slowly, in the breaks between margonite patrols, clear out the groups of margonites until you reach the area between the stairs, where you see a carpet functioning as a bridge. Flag the entire party there. Now, when you've just cleared an incoming patrol, leave the party there and go to the side stairs. stey below, but aggro the margonites on the stairs until they go after you down the stairs. Lead them back to your party on the bridge, slay them, and repeat until only the bonus harbingers remain. They won't follow you down. Now, just grab a light of seborhin and kill them. Last part, bring up 3 lights of seborhin close to the area of the final harbinger so you don't have to run around too much (you CAN drop them). Clear the margonites if you want, or just go and carry the lights as fast as possible. |

the wiki has a good guide, basically you:
> run past the first two harbingers and kill the 3rd one (at the top of the stairs), then kill the Margonites at the stairs there > every 2 minutes, a group of Margos will spawn at the very back and run forward, heading for the Horticulturist > your strategy is to wait for the running group, take them out, then quickly take out a stationary group, rinse and repeat > after eliminating the 2 stationary groups in the middle area, flag the hench back from from the next two harbingers; using a bow, try to pull the middle group of Margos in the next area over to the middle area and kill them > you can try pulling the two sides groups in that next area over but chances are you'll need to kill one of the next two harbingers - wait in the middle for the runners, kill the harbinger then run across and kill the side group > watch the radar for the next group of runners - if they're coming towards the side where you killed the 2nd harbinger, stay there (to protect the spirit), kill them, then run across and kill the other side group; if they're heading down the other side, run back to the middle area to engage them - they'll stop to attack the 1st spirit thing, hopefully you can kill them before the kill the spirit > the Margos/bonus harbingers on the stairs may take 2 attacks to completely eliminiate - kill as many as possible then retreat back down to wait for the next group of runners > you might at this point want to kill the 2nd of the two harbingers there on the dividing line between the middle and last areas, to give you a little more breathing room > the 2 times I've solo'd this, I killed the right-hand harbinger first, taken out the right-hand staircase, then gone over to the left-hand side - the reason is that at the very back, where the runners spawn, is a group of Margos and the final harbinger; the Margos sort of congregate left-ish with the harbinger tending center/right-ish - a Margo bowman will sometimes retreat to the top of the stairs and it's easier to take out the one on the right (if this happens) without agro'ing the final harbinger than if it happens on the left; if it happens on the left, ignore the bowman for the moment - assuming you've killed the rest of the Margos on the left (if not the bonus harbinger), you can hug that left stairway and pull that left-ish group of Margos at the back without agro'ing the final harbinger, then go back up and kill the bowman > during all this, of course, you want to be collecting the stones the spirit thingies create and dropping them in a pile in a convenient place, ready for the final assault > wait for the runners, kill them, then run in a drop a stone on the final harbinger - run back to where you piled the stones, the harbinger should follow, hopefully you can drop 2 more stones on him before the next runners spawn It might take you a couple, three tries to get the hang of it, so don't give up it you fail the first go. An additional explanation may be in order to explain the second method:
The margonite patrol that spawns all the time gets bigger the more harbingers you defeat. By not killing any initially and going for the bonus first, you get to keep fewer margonites coming in. I'd only consider the seconh method if the max. size margonite patrol is giving you trouble. |

Solo as in real solo? Never heard of. I'd say it would have to be quite hard without lots of running skills, as you need to prevent the charging patrold from getting the mission critical NPC...

Not quite sure what you mean here - are you saying 'solo' meaning only 1 person, period, no heroes or hench? I'd certainly stand in awe of someone who could pull that off. I could possibly see someone with some really incredible running skills managing to run from the Horticulturist to the final harbinger 3 times within the first 2 minute spawn but how they would work in the bonus too boggles the mind.
If, however, you are using 'solo' to mean 1 person with a full party of heroes and hench then, yes, I have done it twice now, first with my SS necro and then with my channeling/communing rit. My ranger did it with one other RP and 6 heroes, which gave me the confidence to try soloing it with H&H. |

I have seen someone solo running the mission before but not masters. Sin would be the only way. I would think you would have to have the party you are running keep the NPC alive though.

Hmm. Well, the solo character would have to be able to run really fast, and be able to consistently kill groups of four margonites, at least. Then, you could do it if you could clear the margonite patrol and get a harbinger really quickly. For masters, he'd have to be able to kill the harbinger and 6 additional margonites, too.
BTW, What happens if you aggro the margonite patrol and then get it to break aggro, like by running fast? Perhaps it is possible to mislead the patrol and then not have to worry about the mission critical NPC? |
