Default Hacking a problem?

I plan on buying this game but I was just wondering if hackers were a problem? I know every online game has it shares of hackers but I've played some games where nothing was done about it. Hackers were almost everywhere and the game was not fun at all because of that.

Nope, no hackers on Guild Wars, one out of 100000 players claims his account got hacked to get attention, but I've never heard of hackers on Guild Wars unless you think Bots are hackers.

The most common way of being "hacked" is by a keylogger. Keep your PC safe, don't download sketchy programs and don't accept files from random people and you'll be fine.

really as long as you stay away from 3rd party software and do routine checks on ur computer for spyware and viruses, your fine. This program is pretty safe, most of the hacking problem comes from people downloading 3rd party Keyloggers and find their account is now a Bot sweat shop.

and make your password hard to guess, numbers and capital letters, never tell others your birthday etc.

oh and if you won't be buying another chapter, DO NOT EVER click on the online store just to peek at the contents, your account will be linked to a NCSOFT account forever (however if you decide to do it just write down the name you give or it will be a pain in the arse to change passwords)

Over the years of game playing, GW has been one of the BEST hacker resistant games I've ever seen.

The design of the client was developed with "Don't trust the Client" in mind.

As pointed out, the only real hacks is 3rd party programs trying to capture your user password.

There are mods which can change the graphics and how they display on *your* pc, but do not affect combat dmg, etc, nor do other people see the hacked graphics.

The client can only send player inputs and I'm guessing the server knows your possible movement radius, so some kind of speed hack using malformed packets wouldn't work either. That doesn't mean you don't have to worry about keyloggers or just good ol' social engineering, but no more so than any other online game. Good net behaviour and an IQ higher than a stunned slug and you should be fine.

Completely not a problem in GW. Everything important is server side and very secure. Your game password can be stolen (just like in any other online game due to keyloggers), but it honestly doesn't happen often, and not at all so long as you don't do anything stupid.

I found a really old article that I just thought of. It goes through how GW prevents hacking. If anything, people can just see it on their end. It doesn't affect others.

I want a mod that displays big damage numbers on my pc, so I can feel better about myself. Hahaha.

iv never heard of anything of GW getting hacked. or any major online game for that matter. a player getting his password stolen dosnt count as hacking, thats more incompetence.

ANet deserves the money I paid for each chapter for their netcode alone.

Just have a common sense, standard rules of log in name and password applied here as much as anywhere else on the interweb. Don't use 3rd part "bot" program, don't even download it. Don't let any of your buddies know the password or login as well, a lot of funny stories for that. Scan your pc for junks weekly is always a good thing.

You don't need a mod to do that, do you? Isn't there and an option to increase or decrease the dmg text size aleady?

Go in to options and then "general" I think. If it's not there, try the graphics part.

That may be true as far as your experience goes but it doesn't make it fact. A friend of mine (who is plenty good at getting attention in other ways) got his account hacked because ncsoft didn't notify him when the hackers changed his email and password on his ncsoft account.

So, I would say, that if you link with ncsoft, do not give ANYONE any kind of info that would enable them to change your ncsoft info. Same goes for your GW account info.
