1.) Ok, what makes up a good sword? mine hits for 15-22 but iv added on like 2 handles, a pommel, fire damage, and it has an inscritpion, but is 15-22 the highest base i can find? and if not where can i find these other swords which im sure you will mention

2.) Also, what can i apply to my shield?...nothing can be equipped to it or well anything iv been able to find-help

Thank you and if you need me to ill find out what is on my sword(areowind blade), and my shield is a sun and moon shield...

15-22 is the maximum for a sword.

You can only change the shields found Nightfall around (and HoH or Urgoz/Deep chest, but don't worry about those yet), the ones dropped in Factions & Prophecies are unchangable.

But for those Nightfall shields;

A bit of a warning:

-A sword has a maximum damage of 15-22. You will never find a sword that would do more damage.
-A sword will have either a "built in" damage modifier (like +15% damage when your health is over 50%) or an inscription slot. The inscriptions can be exchanged (a new inscription overwrites the old one) and serve the same purpose as the "build in" damage modifier.
-Any sword can have one handle upgrade and one pommel upgrade. If you apply a different upgrade, it will only overwrite the existing upgrade, you won't get more.

For most damage, consider the following upgrades:
-vampiric: +3 life stolen per hit (drawback: constantly drains your life)
-sundering: a % chance to ignore 20 of enemy armor
Neither is actually extra damage.

As for Shields:
Shields obtained in Prophecies or Factions cannot be changed at all. You need to farm or buy a perfect one.
Shields obtained in Nightfall can be upgraded with a shield handle and MAY have an inscription slot.

Do keep in mind that not all inscriptions work in all items. A weapon inscription won't work in a shield and so on.
