F10 and getting abuse
Now I hope I am just like any other GW player always trying to help people out
or direct them to the proper forums or help for answers. Many a time I say to them "Hit F10" and search the in game help or WiKi for your answer IF I don't know it. Many Many times I get abuse back saying that will quit you out of the game or "Yeah right %&%^%$%" it will do something else bad I go to explain that that IS the ingame help but many still don't believe me or some say WOW I never knew that thanks and they have been playing for many month ect. My question is have you ever tried to help people and got abuse back and did it put you off helping others??? I will still help people this won't stop me but sometimes you get 2 or 3 people replying I'm full of ^%&$ Makes me wonder sometimes if it IS worth trying to help people. Thanks for reading. |

I remember the first time I found a gold weapon in the game. I had played for 2 months before I saw one. I searched the forums for pricing on it and couldn't find any so I asked in the price check forum about it. What I didn't realize was it was the biggest piece of junk worth only merching. And I immediately got be-littled and made fun of because of my lack of knowledge of this game. From that point on I decided to share any information I had with anyone wanting to learn so they didn't go through what I had gone through.
Sometimes the responses I get make me wonder if it is worth it or not but I keep trying to help. Don't let it get to you. Remember the age of some of the people you are trying to help. Look back at some of the posts that go on around here. If you ask a "dumb" question or make a incorrect statement you get jumped immediately. I guess you are supposed to come into the game knowing everything there is to know. Keep helping if you can - every once in a while you will find somebody who really appreciates it. |

1) I help people all the time and never get abuse.
2) Maybe you could tell them to click on "help" in the ingame menu, which does the same as pressing F10. |

The reason? Apparently I'd made them late for supper and gotten them into trouble with their parents because I took too long to do the runs! |

or /help works just as well. =)
Yeah, I do know the feeling...people not believing the help I give, although I'm right. It gets annoying, but then there are also the people who are really thankful and overjoyed, because you "made their day"...thats kinda cute =) |

With the reactions however I can understand those players. I believe it's if you hit F4 you get booted from the game. Someone did that to me once, told me that it would take me to some stats page or something, for which I thanked him, and was promptly booted from the game, mid misison. Made it difficult to trust people for a while, so while your intentions are most certainly good, it will depend on the person't own experience with 'help'. I still don't think that warrants being rude though... So: I think it's definitely worth helping people, but unfortunately so many people out there abuse the guilse of 'helping' which makes players naturally suspicious. It's a shame, but an understandable fact. |

or tell them to type "/help". gives them the same screen as F10, but without the fear associated with Alt+F4 and F12... there are less than helpful people who go into Aspenwood and the like saying noob bait like "Press Alt+F4 for auto win". Makes people a little hinky around being told to press F keys.

That happens to me all the time, but the whispers saying "omg I'm so sorry" which you get back a few minutes later are too funny. :P

I generally get thanked when I help people as on the whole there are a lot of great people on GW and new players looking to learn. You do get the occassional pratt who when you offer you advise abuses you. It happened to me yesterday when some body was after a power leveler in presearing but said no boss runners. I mearly pointed out to him that boss running was the fastest way to level up as you get the most XP in the shortest time. His response was you have no idea what you are talking about because you killloads more by killing them all. He then told me to impolitely go away followed by you noob. My response was polite and structured - I just apologised for offering my advice to prevent him looking a bigger pratt that he already was, maybe a few others ventured the same comments to him because I was put on ignore - not that it caused me any distress.

telling them to type /help is the better way, as controls are customizable.

Is it possible to bing keys like 'i' to open all bags instead of F9 I think it is? If so, how?

I help people all the time. I really enjoy giving people assistance. I guess its my nature (nurse in real life). I couldn't care less if I get abuse back - that response is just treated with the disdain it deserves. A negative response to help is really, really rare though.

I like to help during the festivals since there are alot of people who are new to the game and not aware of possible scams or misleading info that others have.
As for the rest of the time, unless I am 90% sure what I know is correct, I will watch for a response than give an answer. |

I don't help random people anymore. They either beg for gold or just go off on one because you won't help them anymore.

I usually just ask them to type /wiki <subject> and then wait for the 'omg I didn't know we could do that'.
I very seldom help people by grouping with them and leading around, and I almost never give out items, but I am constantly trying to answer questions and guide people who seem confused. |

If I was a new player and needed help, and you told me to press f10 to get it, i would probably get mad at you...
Reason: I also play counterstrike, and if you hit f10 while playing; it closes the game. So i would expect it to work in guildwars And yeah, when I try to help people i just say "type /help" |

ah yeah! I was gonna say what's wrong with F10, then you reminded me of CS. agree with "/help <subject>", best way not to get yell at by newbies.
