Multiple Guild Wars
Hey
I was wondering about the legality (as far as Anet's concerned) and the ease of running two versions of GW at the same time, for i have two accounts (my main, and a new mule/pre char setup) and as much as i could use guildies to transfer stuff to the mules it would be far easier to do it myself by running two versions at the same time on one pc. I do not have access to a second pc so that unfortunately isnt viable. I understand the obvious link to bot related issues by doing this, so i doubt its looked upon highly, but is it a bannable offense? I'm thinking its most likely one of those "grey" area's. If it isnt how can i do it? Cheers |

Simply put, it's not viable unless you have a really beefy machine, and an intricate knowledge of hacking windows.. (assuming you are using windows, since you said "pc")
I had a sneaking suspicion that upon trying to load up guild wars with guild wars running, it would not work. Sure enough, I tried it, and nothing happened. In order to make this work, you would have to trick windows into thinking that in fact neither instance was running. Not sure if this is really possible, since I've never tried.. I assume it would open up a lot of security issues, though. |

just found quite an old thread but they seem to say it still works, here's the link:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=70999 still i'm a bit unsure about the legality, someone there said Anet "neither promote it, or condone it" but still, would be interesting to know their take on it. |

Hiya, Yep i can attest to the 'advanced' method of that post, working. I havent used the 'easy' method.
It is legit, in fact Gail (ANet staff) herself has said to use this method if i remember correctly. You arent modding anything of the game itself, basically you are overriding the 'safety' feature of not being able to run two instances of the game, because, as MoP says, it is quite cpu intensive. So you are modding Windows files, which is not bannable by ANet. Im pretty sure they wont 'support' you if you have tech issues though. Always keep a copy of your latest gw.exe file So, i personally havent used the 'easy' version of the tutorial you linked, preferring to know exactly what im doing rather than downloading something. Its actually quite easy and quick once you have done it once or twice. Each time the game updates you need to update the 2nd instance of the game for your mule account. hmm, i cant remember right now, but i dont think you have to do all that it says in the instructions either.. i dont need to edit the reg other than the 1st time..but im pretty sure i didnt use the loader either *scrath* sorry, if you have questions when you try later, ask away. |

There is a program that will allow you to run two GW clients at the same time. I use it all the time (really makes life easier for transfer and storage across two accounts). I have no problems and our guild techie checked it out and recommends it.
Don't know the URL but we have a direct link to the program on our website HERE. Click on GW2 when you get there. Last edited by quickmonty; Jul 19, 2007 at 04:51 PM // 16:51.. |

I recommend the hex method works fine for me and no risk of account theft etc.

I think the old thread was deleted because it was becoming cluttered with EULA warnings and T&C quotes and the link, Plus general people who could not get it to work makes for alot of spam posts, hope that helps.
The hex method does indeed still work perfect though! Im not so sure but the original poster Ghozer doesnt play anymore as far as i know? If asked nicely he might be persuaded to make another epic post on the subject. I'll go see |

GWx2 works and it is safe, provided you download it from a reputable site. I think it's a lot easier to set up then the hex method. Been using it myself for well over a year.
