Merchant Value vs Sell Value
Having never concerned myself with selling items to other people I would like to know if there is any correlation between what the merchant offers and actual value. Example if I have a gold item worth 300g at the merchant is it worth more to sell than an item the merchant would pay 150g for? Does the merchant value give you any indication of what people would pay for it?

Not really. Sales between players are dependant on the popularity of the item offered, rarity of the skin, and how close to max it is.
While merchant values go up with the strength of upgrades, that price does not consider rarity of the skin or the upgrade.
