Is it worth it?
I played Guild Wars since beta, after 2 years I got tired and left. I graduated college, found a wife (in guild wars btw and we've been 1 year together and going strong), got to 70 in WoW, stopped playing WoW, played shooters and Wii for a while, but now I've been thinking of coming back. Is GW:EN worth it? Can I just go through the game without having to rely too much on pugs? is the new armor pretty?

GWEN is worth it, but more so for those dedicated players and lure lovers! It finishes off a few story holes in prophercies, and basically gives you better looking tyrian 15k armor (although its 10k in cost). You get a tiny area to explore and some better weapons and drops.
The dungeons are nice and add replayability, but bare in mind that GWEN is mostly about adding stuff to collect in order to make us hang around until GW2. Its also about filling the hall of monuments to unlock stuff in GW2. I wouldnt recommend GWEN to anyone who isnt too bothered. I would say play factions and NF first and then come into GWEN. You will get alot more content from other campaigns, instead of the expansion. |

You could rely on NPC's for pretty much everything in GWEN but its actually fun to pug in GWEN. For me anyway. I have to ask if you've done everything else in the other 3 games. If you haven't I suggest you do so before you start in on GWEN. At a moderate pace you can play through it in two days(that's minus doing the optional dungeons) so there's no hurry to get into it.

Thank you guys for the nice responses. Yeah hmm I played like hell the other games, I got to rank 4 in pvp, did lots of GvG, faction battles and Hero battles and finished all 3 campaigns

As for the Armor, it's a slightly less pretty version of existing armors on the whole, in my opinion. GW:EotN is a nice addition to Guild Wars in my opinion, but it's a decision you need to make for yourself.

Yeah it is worth it, simply for the fact it is an expansion but retains the GW game philosophy- i.e. you can pick it up for a few hours, but because it's not a whole new campaign, those few hours will have been spent on lvl 20+ content. That's something I really like. It's a game you can dip into or get hardcore about, which is probably good if you've been burnt out on GW before. You can put it down, or you can get re-caught up.
The armors... some of them are very pretty, some are boring recreations of something before, I <3 spectacles, facepaint and bandanas. Finished the story in a couple of afternoons admittedly with my partner so not solo, but we had 6 heroes and didn't talk to the rest of the world :-) Now doing it slower with more interaction- also quite a good experience. |
