Wait it out for GW2?
Should I wait until Guild Wars 2 comes out, or should I buy all of the campaigns and the expansion?

GW2 doesn't come out for quite some time, and at Eb's at least you can get prophecies and GWEN together and the other two campaigns very cheaply. If you need something to do, definitely get them.

You are talking 1 to 2 years for gw2 as its some time 2009 I believe.
If thats not too long then wait, otherwise get gw1 Prophesies is the best but hardest choice for a start point and becoming a full powered character is a long but rewarding road. Nightfall would get you an extras 2 character classes to choose from as well as heroes. Factions also gives you 2 extra classes "different to night fall ones" but its the weakest of the three in storyline and content I think. Im not far enough into gwen to judge yet but am enjoying it. All the games have crossover points at harbours. So your characters can do all the campaigns eventually. Last edited by gremlin; Oct 08, 2007 at 08:36 AM // 08:36.. |

GW:2 is some distance away as previously said, potentially it could be even further away as we all know delays can happen. It will also give you better understand of the events leading up to GW:2 if you play some of the chapters from GW:1. So I'd say go for the Platinum edition of Guild Wars(Prophicies and Eye of the north together) as Prophicies is the most newb friendly out of all the games which will put you in good stead for GW:EN as well as the other chapters.
Alot of people will tell you to get Nightfall for the heros but imo it is pointless having heros unless you can afford to get decent equipment as well as having a large pool of skills to choose from, if you can't then Henchies are more or less just as good. Certain fun elite skills are much easier to get in Nightfall, though. Barrage and Searing flames can be capped quite early in the game. NF also gives players higher cash rewards and treasures, so kitting heroes isn't really the big deal you make it.
GW:EN would be a total waste of money for a newbie. Even when you arrive at the point that you can access it, the character wouldn't likely be lvl 20, have max armour or weapons and would be some way to go before they had any elite skills. Any additional chapter (other than the expansion) benefits a lower level Prophecies player with faster development and access to max armour/weapons. Prophecies + Nightfall would be ideal, IMO. Only get the platinum edition if it isn't much more than Prophecies on it's own. Don't buy everything, though. There's really no point, until you're sure the game is going to be owning your evenings for the next year or two. |

I would recomend buying prophicies and GW:EN.
These will give you tonnes to do and show you both the old and the new in GW. Prophicies was the first campain and its early stages are pretty much unchanged since the day it was released. GW:EN the latest expantion gives you Hero's and inscribed drops wich are the newest and best features as well as the PvE skills. If you enjoy PvP you may wish to pick up the PvP unlock packs or buy Factions and Nightfall to have access to all skills, but this is not mandatory to enjoy PvP or PvE. If you enjoy a good story and playing with other people or solo then GW is a good investment. |

GWEN isn't something I recommend you dive into as soon as you beat the campaign for this first time. Some Elite mission experience (to teach discipline), and some Hard Mode mission runs (to teach the value of actual working builds), along with some farming to get the proper weapons and gear you need would be nice before hand.
