Loot Scale question
OK So I'm farming UW and I (as a joke) say in guild chat that there is someone who works at Anet who controls the Ecto distribution, and that he is not giving me any drops.
My guildie seems to take a very serious attitude towards this and claims that Ectoplasm is affected by loot scaling. I tell him it's not, because it's a rare crafting material. He says that on the european guild wars site they updated it about a month ago. So, who's right in this situation? |

I'm not sure either side can be entirely validated empirically, but the last I heard ecto was exempt from lootscaling for the reasons you stated. I find it difficult to believe your guildmate, because these forums would have been ablaze upon release of that statement. I don't remember that ever occurring.

If ectos were all of a sudden loot scaled I would expect their value to sky rocket like they did when loot scaling was first introduced and they weren't loot scaled.

I've never heard anything about rare mats. being an exception from loot scaling, so I should assume that they're scaled much the same as anything else.

I feel very sure that Ecto's haven't been put back on the list of lootscaled drops.
I remember those few days when they were loot scaled: Ecto prices skyrocketed! These days the prices seem to hold around 5-6K - for a while when they were lootscaled they were at 11-12K I'm currently farming Destroyer Cores for my Destroyer Gauntlets - and they surely haven't been lootscaled (thank the gods!) Cheers! |

Then again, perhaps it's more cause for concern than humor. |

I have a guildie who currently grind ecto's in UW - seems like the droprate is the same as it been for a while.
3 guildies went in last night to cap a spider for one of them - got 3 globs between 'em. All is well in glob-land! |

I still havent noticed much change in the amounts of Gold/purple/blue drops, only that im getting the same amount of them but more non-maxed stuff. As for ectos.... only got one of them to drop for me since I played FoW (although with around 20 runs it isnt too much to count on in terms of a baseline ) |

So...correct me if I am wrong, but, Jon is saying that someone controls the Ectoplasm Distribution, as in manually controlling if you're going to get an ecto or not? I can imagine not...it might be just that the person changes the drop rate of it or something...but I don't know, so I am asking. :P

Jon said he was joking. No, no one is manually controlling whether or not you get an ecto drop. They are only controlling whether or not Jon gets an ecto drop.

Cant say on this but here is some evidence supporting the ecto loot scaleing
before update dual UW runs with my friend doing 3 monument quests and killing everything but the trappers=3-5 ectos each each run, After update 2-4 same UW runs and only 1 ecto each, no Loot scaleing HUH. enough to make me stop UW runs untill they fix this. |
