Question about buying (or given) a used copy of Factions & Nightfall...
Hi Guys,
I know a person who will basically give me his copies of these Expansions, he no longer plays. I've actually just began messing with my old original copy (Prophecies)...my question is, will they connect to my existing account or would I have to worry about any Key issues. If I need to buy brand new copies that's fine...this was just a good opportunity if it would work and my account be safe Would appreciate any advice or info! Thanks for the help! btw - I will have the discs and existing keys, this is not a loan type situation Last edited by Rolland; Oct 22, 2007 at 07:39 PM // 19:39.. |

If he has already used the keys then you will NOT be able to connect them to your existing accounts nor can Anet connect them for you. If you want to add another product to your account, you'll have to buy a new one and add it with a brand new key.

My second account was banned because it was given to me. Which is really annoying because he was m neighbor and had 2 total playing hours... cause he didn't like the game. |

Psh, everyone has second/third accounts that were given to them, It's a vain threat to say you *will* be banned.
On topic, don't really have enough info to answer your question whole heartedly, I guess just go by what is mentioned. |

Accepting an account doesn't mean you will definitely get banned either. Hell, I doubt they'd actually do anything, including help, if you went and told them about it. |

If he never used the keys, however, lucky you. |

Since it appears to be a grey area why not ask the people who know the answer, and thats certainly not us players.
I know they do not like the idea of people selling accounts and if they say someone can give an account then everyone who buys one will say it was a gift. If I bought a new copy and set it up then didnt play it for a while later reinstalled it on a new computer using a new isp with new email address and changed everything to work with the new computer. Wouldnt that appear to be the same online effect as it being a new player. As I say grey area really depends how the games company feel about such things. Morally your on good ground assuming all is as you say, probably legally too but if the games company decided to ban you it would be a pretty long and expensive option to change it. Go talk to them in fact why not get the person who gave it to you to email them that should confirm the situation. |

Anyone in doubt about the rules should read the EULA. It is all broken out in sections at http://www.guildwars.com/support/legal
As ANet is a a "for profit" company, they would automatically discourage anything that cut into that profit. Also, I remember almost a year of constant complaints from the community about hacked accounts and players buying accounts which were then reclaimed by the original owner. So, ANet's policy is very firm. No transfer of ownership allowed. Violations result in blocking of all accounts owned by player(s) involved. This might seem harsh, but the cost to the company for the hours spent trying to determine who was lying and who was just stupid must have been enormous. If you don't bring it to their "official" notice by contacting support about it, expecting them to help you break the EULA, you could most likely use the account with no problem, just not linked.

Darcy has the right of this - only take over friends (trust!) accounts as the previous owner can reclaim it (if you complain all involved accounts will be banned).
A ton of people I know have accounts they have taken over from friends who no longer play - they have not been banned, and i expect,- never will! |
