in prophecies (chapter 1) it is the starting area.....and can not be returned to once left. It is rather unique in that there are no henchmen and the largest party you can have is 2, also there are no skill trainers, no bags and many other such niceities they added to the starter areas of cantha (factions) and elona (nightfall).
Does this help? |

Unlike the other campaigns, Prophecies starts you out about 2 years prior to the main story. The Searing is a pretty significant event in the storyline of Prophecies, but to make a long story short, it's when the starting area, Ascalon, was green and beautiful, as opposed to the blasted, barren place it is now...

I'll add:
Pre-Searing is a time period where a character starting in Prophecies is a newb. Meaning, your character is just starting out with no experience in fighting or spellcasting, and must be taught each skill by a more powerful trainer. These trainers soon become the henchies you find later in the game. It is also the first time you get to meet Gwen, a little annoying little girl who is poor and sweet. She tags along with you outside of town if you let her. She loves flowers, a new flute and a new cape. Give them to her, and she gives you nice things later. She will not join your party, but if you allow her to accompany you, and you give her a new flute, she will heal you (like a invincible monk that can't fight). There is no such thing as dp in this time period, and there are 2 quests that force you to join with another player. It is also the place where you get to earn the title "Defender of Ascolon". There is no storage. Dyes drop more frequently. You get to meet some important people here (Lady Althea, Little Thom, Gwen, Ranger Nente, etc.) This is also the first time you can charm a bear. |
