You're doomed.

People will leave if they see the guild is dead. Who wants to be in a dead guild? no one.

Guilds are easy to come across, so joining and leaving isn't really an issue.

I've been in a lot of guilds (must be 40+ by now) I leave when I feel it's time to. I have left a guild upon joining, for the exact same reason you posted this thread.

Unless a guild is active and has a strong community of people, it will fail.

These days a kitted out hall, and some kind of forum is pretty much standard.

Yeah....

People will only stay if it is active.

It can only be active if people stay.

Almost as bad as rank discrimination in HA.

Crazy thought here...but you could try making some friends. Help some noobs out, explain to them that you're trying to restart the guild...

My guild is discussing this very subject; What to do about inactive members?

Having a roster full of inactive people is definitely not a good selling point. I think that's worse than having a small number of people in the guild who are active.
One of the issues we're facing is that we're a multi-gaming group and many of the folks on the GW roster are active in other games & activities. So, it's a wonderful piece of fun to work out. When should someone be dropped for inactivity? 2 months? 3? (we're leaning towards 3)
Then there's the issue of whether to let them back in if they become active again? My guild is pretty close knit and has been around for years, so many of the guys have been around since before GW - they'd be welcome back with open arms. For the inactive guys we've picked up recently, it would depend on how involved they got with the guild outisde the game, as well (forums, etc.)
If we do take this course of action, we'll announce it ahead of time and give everyone the opportunity to log in and that all they'd have to do in the future to avoid this would be to log in once in a while . We will also make it perfectly clear that the only reason that they are being dropped is for inactivity and if they become active again, they're more than welcome to re-apply for membership.

Maybe you should get with your Leader & other officers (the active ones) to sort it out.

What Malice said in his first post is pretty much the truth. If you have a fully loaded guild hall sell it to some guy. You most likely won't get all the money you spent on npc's back, but its better than nothing. If you fail to sell your guild, just kick everyone and disband it. Then move on and try to find a more active guild that shares your interests. Long term inactivity for many people is the #1 reason to leave a guild.

our guild has a 2 week non active policy.

if a player goes offline for 2 week and does not inform us on the forum*holidays or whatever...kick.

it means that yes we have a smallish guild but the ambiance is very much alive.

basically having a small lit up roster is MILES better than a huge greyed out one.

Wow that is pretty harsh. My guild has someone that has been inactive for over a year though, that might be a little lenient.

That's a good tactic. My guild is more like 4 weeks though.

Generally, don't just invite strangers you meet in Kamadon/LA. Find buddies. Join an alliance to meet people. Merge guilds together. Be creative.

It's not harsh at all. 2 weeks is a long time to be gone if you want anything serious with the guild.
besides, if you do get in some real-life situation that means you need to take some time off, when you get back you can get pm the leader and get in again (if they want you still)

i prefer guildwars way above a lot of other mmorpg's where you get penalized to dismissing someone form the guild, or get penalized for leaving

My guild has dropped quite since too. I am more likely to be a guest of one of the alliance than my guild doing GvG these days and I don't mean that I don't play but our rating has been static since September 9th which for me is quite a long time.

So is a guild like a big PUG (or rather a big PUG that lasts longer) for you?

I think you stay in a guild that suits your gameplay style, either casual or hardcore, more PvE than PvP, or more fun or serious. And in the end it's all about the people, other concepts do not actually exists, we rather make them to explain what's happening!

It's sounds like one of them Catch-22 things.
I didn't really like that movie.
That movie made me fall asleep.

tbh, these are not days for making new guilds, as 95% of exp ppl already have guild, other 5% are either looking for one or want to be guildless... i have like 3-4 friends who tried with new guild in last weeks, and all of them failed, so i just reccomand to all ppl to NOT waste money on new guild, but just join one. after ppl make new guild, they spend all/most of money on upgrades/hall/cape/inviting and are soon broken... and from guild they only got roster with unactive noob, so its worthless. just what i think bout new guilds in last times...

I agree with this. The GW community is dying out, and will continue to until GW 2 is out. Even the more established/famous guilds are suffering a decline - how can new guilds expect to grow and thrive? Give up on your own guild, join an established one, give it your all.

We have a 3-week inactivity policy (and reinvite them for when they log back on), with exceptions, such as... one of our officer's computer broke and still isn't repaired ATM, must have been over a month and a half. He logged on a friend's computer to tell us he'd be gone for 2 weeks to more than a month. So he hasn't gotten the boot yet.

In May, June and part of July, our guild was pretty much inactive. The leader had a lot of stuff going on IRL, and I was in Japan with playtimes that really didn't correspond with our time zones at all - I couldn't show up for 3 weeks straight, at one point. So the guild activity started to drop, and we lost nearly half of our members. Kinda weird when you're a leading officer, you STILL log on, but most of your members have either left the guild, or the alliance... I totally understand why (who wants to be in a guild where your leader and very active officer aren't on much anymore) but still, we had some people stick by our side.

And we've rebuilt. 35 members right now, going strong, with active players .

heh.
But we still wuv you MB.<3

Onto the subject:
All guilds will rise and fall...it's the strongest ones that rise again...rawr.
Keep the members list medium, slapping 90+ members in less than a week spells FAIL.
