Me/E, you could change you second profession into other things so you can play Fast Cast nuker or interrupter or whatever. E/Me on the other hand has more energy so if you aren't experienced with energy management ele can be a better choice but you'll probably be stuck in the nuker role and there isn't as much diversity as the is with mesmers.
However I don't have a mesmer or ele so I may have no idea what i'm talking about. |

In PvE Ele primary attribute energy storage is the tops for all casters.
In PvP fast casting is ok but not really that big a deal. Mesmers are very versitile chars, but they require a little more skill to play than eles. With a mesmer you really have to know your foe, which one to focus on for interupts for degen for energy denile and for pure dmg. Elementalists are pure dmg dealers with a few nice personal/party buffs. Eles are always wanted in parties and can serve more than just the AoE nuker role but you may have to fight to get people to let you out of that role. |

Even though I like mesmers and love playing them I have to go Ele/Mes.
The fast casting attribute just isnt enough to make me say otherwise, its all very well to reduce the casting time of spells but with my reactions it doesnt help much. Maybe a third off the casting time vs 90+ energy sry I will have the energy. |

Elementalists and mesmers both have caster armor, which means that max armor for them is 60.
However, the two professions have very different armor arts with distinct appearances. Elementalist armor arts Mesmer armor arts Personally, I think that mesmer armor has a bit more style to it |

(talking pve here)
there really isnt a hard decision here. mesmers suck, plain and simple.(sorry mesmer fanboys) they have no effective primary attribute in PvE. Eles on the other hand have a very useful primary attribute and huge DPS. |

For an Elementalist the best secondary is generally mesmer so you can echo or archane echo. They also provide you some nice e-managment skills and some Mantras that can be of use. For mesmers the choice is a little broader as you can do fast casting nukes, less dmg than an ele but some like the builds. You can be a fast cast healer. Generally though the best mesmer builds use only mesmer skills + a hard res they can fast cast. |
