Qj3ster,
I just started playing GW 3 weeks ago. I began with Prophecies and I am absolutely loving this game. There is a very small learning curve (as with any rpg style of game). This is my first experience with any kind of "online" game, so I can't compare to WoW. But if you do take the plunge, you won't be sorry. BTW I found Prophecies at Best Buy for $29.99. Sounds kind of high priced compared to what others are saying, but well worth it. |

For your first character, just choose whichever profession looks the most fun; some professions are tricker to start out with than others, but the important thing is that you enjoy the profession you play (if it's not fun, it's not worth playing, right?) |

Well i'm looking at some other MMO's right now and I probably will come back to this. It's just the fact that people are like only in towns or your partys that is making me kind of sceptic about it.

Another thing to note is that GW offers instant travel to any town or outpost you've been to at least once before, and the death penalty is very light. There's also no repair costs for equipment to worry about. You also don't have to worry about ammo for bows/spears/etc. Every class also has at least 1 way of healing themselves, and since you can choose a secondary profession, there's even more options. Truth be told, GW is a more casual game for me - I don't feel the same pressure to play because I'm paying for access, but that's also a big plus. |

But still I just like to when i'm traveling see people wander by maybe chat with them ect. This setup means i'll have to build a friend list of people so I can actually do stuff or spend hours finding random people.

join a good guild or u will be pretty bored as PUG is pretty much non-existent. GW was great for me as it was my first online game but once i played WoW and really got into end-game raiding, GW (PVE) seems to simplistic for me. Can't say much about the PvP as I suck at it. It is a fun game though.

I actually enjoyed PvP in WoW primarily the only reason I played it. I hit level 54 then quite, now i'm curious if I was at least 60 I would last longer. Maybe i'll play WoW until GW 2?

I am quite sure you can get any of the three campaigns for about $24.99 if you look hard enough.
Prophesies should be in the $19.99 region if the $9.99 discount is over. |

First, don't restart the WoW account. Second, reality check: Speaking honestly, WoW is the better game, no argument. The world is more immersive, the game is more polished, the community better developed, blah blah blah. I've yet to see anything in GW that grabs you by the cojones like the first time I marched into Orgrimmar as a young orc, or the instantly recognisable atmosphere of the Undercity or Darnassus. There's a solidity, for lack of a better term for a virtual online world, that WoW has that I don't get from GW. Third, reality check, part 2: The problem is that the subscription model practically mandates that WoW becomes a gargantuan time sink long before you hit the level cap and, from there, it just gets worse. If I wasn't a married father of two and I didn't care about maintaining any normal social life, I'd be right back playing WoW. However, I do have a life, and I can't justify the expense of WoW relative to how much gameplay I can get out of it in the later levels. WoW's a lot like smoking, fun at first, but in the long run it's just a financial drain. Quitting it is also a lot like smoking in that you might have to do it more than once and it keeps with the temptation long after you let your account lapse... GW is the antidote to that. What it lacks in the sumthin sumthin that WoW has is made up by a much better value for the same sort of gameplay that makes WoW and all these sorts of games fun. I still get to run around and build a character, I get to chat with friends, I get to kill stuff Basically, it respects both your time and your wallet, which something like WoW does not. If you have the time for WoW, more power to you, otherwise, give GW a try, the flexibility and generally solid game design is dang fine. In short, it's a good game that compares well to WoW. In fact, let's just put it like this: If you found yourself playing WoW and thinking that you really wish the whole game was designed more like the first 25 or 30 levels of WoW and that the endgame content was more fun and not so much pure, mind numbing grind, you'll be very happy. On the other hand, if you actually enjoyed making dozens of identical Molten Core runs at hours of time invested each just to go do something else that requires dozens of runs to find the right drops to go do something else that requires dozens of runs... well, maybe you should restart that account GW will never "wow" you like WoW did at its best moments, but it will also never ask you to do the sheer volume of ridiculous stuff just to keep "advancing". |

also you dont need people to help you in most areas , due to NPC henchmen, and in nightfall, customisable npc heroes that will always be ready to join your party. i went without a guild for the first approx year i had the game.

The lingo isnt to bad. terms that youll want to know when starting out are things like "lfg" (looking for group), and "glf"(group looking for). the rest you can probly pick up as you go. [/QUOTE] If you can get guild wars for 20 bucks i say do it. try it out. if you dont like it then your not out to much money. I think it is much better than wow. Its not as time consuming, and not much of a grind at all Last edited by Fried Tech; Dec 04, 2007 at 02:27 PM // 14:27.. |

I went in the store today looking at all the Guild Wars games and then some how wondered into the WoW section needless to say I have bought 2 months of WoW. Darn my wandering eyes but don't fret I am getting Guild Wars for Christmas so when I get bored of WoW in like 1-2 weeks i'll have Guild Wars

Well I gave you the prophecies trial, but you would have been happier with the NF trial. NF has the best experience yet, overall.
I tried the trial for WoW and it's a good thing that I didn't like it at all, because they people that play WoW say that GW didn't leave you addicted in the same way as GW. I play GW way too much, and even consider myself to be addicted to it, so it definitely is a good thing that it didn't seem fun to me. |
