For you D&D type fans Paladin would be an excellent class. Almost Like a Paragon, but read up on it. If Anet (Always Nerfing Every Time) could get creative without destroying the current theme it could be an excellent game. For those serious gamers out there lets hope it's not like what happened to UT99 (Unreal Tournament). They destroyed the game. Making it anything like WOW would be a disapointment. The key would be to create something familiar without charging monthly fees. If that were to happen you would loose over 50% of the players. It will be interesting that is for sure.

I could have sworn that when GW2 info was first released I read that they would be going back to the original 6. But seeing as how I havent been able to find anything to back that up, maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part.

One definate-seeming class would be the "Golemancer" for the asura race. As hinted in GW1. Although this is just a theory (^_^). And i also think that each race, will have its "own" classes. Like a charr bladestorm (aka their warrior), and some fancy name for a norn warrior. or Golemancer is just a fancy name for an asuran necromancer, with their own fancy summons.

Don't you guys think it should be like every other game? Let me pick any race, and any prof.
I played Final Fantasy Online, and I loved how the Taru made great spellcasters, but they could be warriors too. I think each race should be slightly more proficient in a class than another race. I'm sure they'll have a diverse variety of classes. |

I'm sure this has been said before, but i think Race/Profession will be the new Primary/ Secondary. ie, your Race will give you skills no matter what your Profession, and you can change your Profession, but not your Race. Also, from what I read in the original GW2 PCgamer article, it sounded like armor would no longer be Profession specific (not confirmed, of course). |

My bet is as you level you hone your skills towards some sort of class kind of like Dungeon Siege
All start with nothing and as you level if you heal and protect you become more and more monkish and if you use a weapon like a bow more and more you become like a ranger Just a guess |

The only classes for certain: Haves/Have-nots all else is speculation.
However, I would love to see bonuses/weaknesses based on class and race. It only makes sense that Asura get an intelligence bonus for magic/steam-punk technology and a size penalty for melee....likewise, the Norn take an intelligence penalty for magic while gaining a slight advantage in melee. It could even be more specific to types of magic or weapon. For instance: Asura have a disadvantage using hammers, but may get a bonus for daggers and other small arms. The more options with race-based attributes, the more carefully the game will need to be balanced...nay-sayers will likely scoff at the idea of the devs doing this with great equity, but (in spite of nerfs to favorite builds) I still think they accomplish this with more careful consideration than other games I have seen/played. Even greater depth can be added to the game if each race/class combination comes with inherent bonuses and penalties. It seems evident in some cases that this may already be built into the game to some degree...i.e. Charr seem to prefer axes and swords over hammers. Dwarves seem to prefer Hammers and axes...It makes a certain kind of sense that each race might have a preference for specific types of weapons based primarily on functionality and size...Back to Asura using hammers: maybe as tools, but as weapons....an all new "Bunny Thumper". I only hope that the devs explore this to its full potential instead of making every class the same for every race. Having to decide on race as a purely aesthetic choice makes it trite...making is a decision that will effect how you play the game and your overall game experience is more what I expect from them...not just because of my love of role-playing, but because the dynamics of the game, the choices we make on builds and the replayability of starting new characters will be far more interesting and challenging. |

I hope it is similar to what Mordakai wrote, that way you don't have to have 10 different characters to experience all 10 different types of game play (as Guild Wars is set up right now).

I don't remember where I read it in all honesty but I'm fairly certain that someone in an interview stated that they're still aiming towards a multi-class system. Choose a main, choose a secondary... But I am not 100% on it. I also remember reading something that hinted at the original professions making a return.
However if I'm wrong on any of this I apologize. |

In one interview about GW2, ANet mentioned that they were looking at merging some of the professions. Nothing more definite has been stated since.
I have seen other threads debating the various combos, warrior/ranger, monk/rit, necro/mes, etc. Regretfully, we probably won't get any more definite info until the beta next year shows us where ANet is planning to go with the whole profession merge subject.

i think that there will be unique racial skills like the ones in GWEN, but there probably wont be any new classes. i wouldn't doubt that some races would be restricted from 2 or more classes. an asuran simply wouldnt make a good warrior. |
