I prefer nightfall personally. It has a better storyline, cool new professions, and a large map. I find some missions in nightfall to be a lot more fun then some in factions.

I like Factions atmosphere, environment, storyline and classes far better then Nightfall's. On the other hand Nightfall has more then its share of powerful skills and it has heroes. AB, as low quality of a pvp form as it is, trashes HvH easily.

Missions: Nightfall 8, factions 2 Locations: Nightfall 9, factions 2 New Features: Nightfall 9, factions 6 All four of the new professions have their merits and can be very powerful. |

Nightfall is better the first or maybe even the second time through, but after that it is tedious. I have played through both 5 times () and enjoyed Factions more. Nightfall has heroes (very good) and Paragon/Dervish are funner than Ritualist/Assassin (I like ritualist but I don't really enjoy assassins). All four classes are good for pvp (the paragon has been hit hard by the nerf bat because it was so powerful pvp wise) but if that is your thing I think you should go with Factions even though there are a lot of popular elites in Nightfall. Like it was mentioned before, Alliance Battles and Fort Aspenwood are loads funner than Hero Battles.

Heroes are a big plus for Nightfall, and overall I find the Dervish and Paragon to be more "solid" professions.
Factions has a more engaging feel to it, insomuch as you feel more drawn into the story and the urban setting is pretty entertaining (albeit a bit frustrating w/ its maze-like layout). There's also an issue of skills and items. IMO, factions has cooler skins for the weapon models, and there are quite a few very good skills (both regular and elite). Nightfall, OTOH, introduces weapon inscriptions, which add another level of customization, and the voice acting is noticeable better than that of factions. I picked up NF first, since I solo most of the time, and the heroes really help w/ that. I do like the Asian setting of factions and its faster progression as well... |

I prefer Factions merely for the fact that Nightfall was the one that started the whole "grinding for points" system which ANet took and ran with to an absurd extreme in GWEN. Story wise, I found Factions better in that the concept if split factions (lux and kurz) was pretty cool. One positive in NF was the hero system. But overall, Factions, and all its convolutedness, was a better expansion to me

In NF, every mission that involves a rank in something also has another way out - "get sunspear general or level 17", etc. IMO, if you don't have heroes, factions has some of the weaker selections of henchmen... Things like the gothic shields, or katana are awesome looking. I do like most of the factions character models over the NF ones... |

I preferred Nightfall. However Factions does have some good things as well.
Nightfall's Storyline is way better than Factions, i liked how it tied up some of the loose ends in from the previous 2 campaigns. Heroes are very nice as well, adding the feature of customizing builds/weapons on AI characters. Nightfall also has some key elite skills that i feel are neccessary in order to have a strong well-rounded character. Factions has way better weapon skins imo. Factions also has ab/lux/kurz which i thought made gameplay through it more interesting. Didnt like all the running in Factions, would rather have more fighting. Factions storyline was sub-par, ending was strange. Otherwise both games are pretty fun, but i would give the edge to Nightfall. |

Don't get me wrong, I liked many parts of Nightfall (inscriptions, heroes, classes, etc), but I definitely liked Factions more. If just for the fact that it was prettier. Personally, I found most Nightfall weapon skins ugly (salient swords ftl), while I liked most Factions skins. I also liked that it was shorter, having come from the much, much longer Prophecies, Factions felt like a quick breath of fresh air. Yeah, the story and cut scenes were kinda lame, but the actual gameplay and missions seemed better to me than in Nightfall.
As for the grind issue, I don't think Factions can be counted as the start of grinding. One, you didn't need to do much killing to get the necessary 10,000. For Kurzick, quests could provide all the necessary faction; and for Luxons, while you come up 3,500 faction short from the non-repeatable quests, this could be gained from repeatable quests like the jade arena or through a second character. This brings up the second reason that one can't really accuse Factions of being grind happy, faction is shared by all characters on your account. So while you have to work a bit to progess your first character through, any secondary characters can just zip on through gaining a free 10,000 xp. Nightfall gets the grind award because you have to build your lightbringer title up on every single character. |

I liked Factions because I really dig the urban atmosphere. After playing "n" fantasy games on jungles / forests / plains and whatever, it was nice to roam some huge city.
