At the moment, buying character slots (or anything else, for that matter) from the in-game store requires a credit card (or a debit card issued by one of the major credit companies). There has been talk of alternative payment options, but so far we've yet to see any progress on that front.

I think they tried other payments for a while before quickly pulling them because of fraud. I'll edit this post if I can find Gaile's comments about it.

Every additional way of payment reuires some extra work and often incurs some extra risk. Eventually, it just doesn't pay to do it.
Gaile once made a nice example, I think it was about checks. There certainly was a lot of stuff to do with one after receiving it, requiring a new employee for it. I know it's rough. I got my credit card specifically for the purpose of buying EotN with the preorder. But I'm quite happy to have one now. |

I just looked through Gaile's postings in the developer thread and it doesn't go back far enough. Only goes back to 10/01, so I can't find the quote, but I'm fairly sure that is what she said.

The problem that seems to come up most often is that people who are too young (or have too bad a credit rating) to have an actual "credit card", still want to buy stuff from the on-line store. The pre-paid cards are a solution because they are not a "credit card" and don't have any requirements to get or use (just like a gift card). |

I am really surprised (and disappointed) that there is no solution to that... Things like Paypal at least should work easily. The money should be transferred the moment you make the purchase, just like cash.
Also if there are problems with such payment methods, all involved parties should be working on a solution since it's in everyone's interest that it works. NCSoft, Paypal and customer. (Paypal just being an example) I myself am 27 years old and never needed to get a credit card. I find it odd that the first thing requiring me to have one should be the purchase of an expansion to an online game. I don't really want to get a credit card unless i need to for some "real life" reason, like work or travelling. Last edited by Halbarad Wolfson; Dec 15, 2007 at 07:58 PM // 19:58.. |

That has been discussed to death. There's nothing new to add and there's nothing any of us can do.
