Will GW2 be just like a big expansion of GW1, like factions and nightfall but a lot bigger, or will it be a whole new game?
So will you be able to play your GW characters on it or..?

It's a new game.

No, you cannot use existing characters, as it happens several hundred years after the current game.

whole new game on a completely redone engine.

you can link accounts to transfer your character name but no gold/items/etc.

the HOM unlocks some cosmetic item but nothing that will give you any advantage over a new player.
it is GW2 a whole new game

He means use the forum's search function. Questions about GW2 come up ALOT and you could've found the answer if you searched a little bit.
