Your level doesn't influence how much experience other people get. However, party size does.

Simply, your character's experience gained is based on three things:
-Your level *only*
-Party size
-Monster level

I believe your friend will get more XP than you, but I'm not sure. I also think he needs to actually be within compass range of the target to get the XP, so he can't entirely hang back and let you do the work. And, of course, he has to have been to the areas before to actually go there with you.

Here is a very detailed explanation of how exp works in GW if you are interested.

As far as i know you have to be a lot closer than compass range to earn the XP from a kill. I thought you had to either attack a target or enter it's aggro radius to get the XP, or something like that. I remember helping someone get survivor when the battle of turai's procession farm was doable with a splinter barrager. I'd stay out of the way, but close enough to drop spirits and cast splinter weapon on the person and they would use barrage. I wouldn't get any XP and they would get all of it.

In answer to your question though, yes, your characters level does affect the amount of XP you receive. The lower your level vs the level of the monster you kill, the more XP you get. For instance, if you kill a monster who is the same level as you you'll get 100XP. If you kill a monster that is 2 levels higher than you, you'll get 136XP. If the moster was 2 levels lower you'll get 64XP. The XP is also divided between the number of players in your party. If you were 2 level 10's and you both killed a single level 10 monster you would both share the 100XP and get 50 each. The division of XP is also dependant on the level you are. If you had a level 10 anda level 12 in your party and you killed the same level 10 monster then the lvl10 player would get 50XP (100/2) but the lvl12 would only get 32XP (64/2). That's how power levelling works. A high level character kills lots of high level monsters and takes a low level character along who gets vastly more XP because of their low level vs the monsters.

All sounds a bit confusing. Wiki can explain it much better than i can http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Experience

EDIT: ^^ Beat me to it
