Runes on Elite Armor?
Well, it's pretty much like what the title says. I've been wondering for a long time if people put runes on their elite armor or just wear it for looks. I tried searching for a thread like this, but nothing of this kind popped up. (I'm bad at searching :P)
So, do you put runes on your elite armor? |

Yup. If I intend to wear it, I intend to fight in it.

What types of runes do you put on it? Minor, Major, or Superior?

Superior earth/fire, superior vigor, minor energy storage, pyromancer insignias and an attunement or two.

I equip it like normal armour...if you're wearing it, you're generally fighting in it... :S

You can overwrite them or you can use a perfect salvage kit to extract the runes without destroying the armour. You generally get them out of Eye of the North, so if you don't have that game, you'll need to find a real person to buy it from.

Lol, wow I never knew that you could overwrite them. Then again I don't know much about this game. So can you overwrite the Insignia's too? or no?
(Dang, I need to get GW:EN) xD |

When changing Runes / Insignias, you have 3 options. 1) Put another Rune on top of the existing Rune, thus overwriting the old Rune. 2) Use an Expert / Superior Salvage kit to pull the old Rune off (if you want to use it somewhere else) while praying that your armor doesn't break. 3) Use a Perfect Salvage Kit and pull the old Rune off. Generally #3 is best unless you know the old Rune wont be used elsewhere, say on heroes or somewhere else. Then #1 would be best. #2 sucks when you break your armor... |

Insignias can be overwritten as well, they're just like runes, only prefix instead of suffix.

have a different set for different reasons, eg: monk has set of tats for smiting and a set of tats for 55'ing, ele has a set for fire, water, and earth...etc. Some have sets with more health while others have more energy....depends on what I will be doing as to what set I wear.

There are no reasons not to equip runes to your armor if you want to use it.
But i once bought me a beginners armor just for the looks. I didn't buy the max armor version and did not put any runes on it because i never used it out of town. Having one headset/ weaponset for every attribute is very helpful if you don't want to play just one boring build. |

Some of this depends upon the value of the Rune/Insignia and the value of the armor you want to take it off of. (All Runes and Insignias can be written over. So can most weapons mods and inscriptions, btw.)
Always check at a Rune trader for the cost of the Runes and Insignias. Perfect Salvage kits are expensive, so you may not want to use them to recover a Rune or Insignia that isn't worth much. If you want to take the Runes and Insignias off your old armor to use them on your elite armor, it depends somewhat on whether you want to keep your old armor or not. If you want to keep your old armor, use Perfect Salvage to remove only the expensive Runes/Insignias you want to transfer to your new elite armor. Buy new copies of the cheap ones. If you don't want to keep your old armor, use Perfect Salvage only if a piece of armor has both a Rune and an Insignia that are expensive (cost significantly more than 100g). Use Perfect Salvage to remove one of them and then Expert Salvage to remove the other. On other pieces, just use Expert Salvage to remove the costly Rune/Insignia and then the other one, if the armor isn't destroyed. |

Think of it this way... if your going to spend 1 million+ gold to get FoW armor or 75k + materials for elite armor, you might as well spend the extra 30k to get a superior vigor and a full set of runes and insignas.

I mod my elite armor better than my normal armors but considering I only ever fight in one set I only need to mod one.
