Where do you get your builds?
Just wondering where most people get their builds from...pvxwiki, these forums, gamependium, some other site, or do you make your own builds?

Personally, when I branch out into a new class I have never played before I will do several things:
If it is for PvE I will head to the forums here on guru and read up on builds, and the class I am playing. For PvP I may glance at wiki for builds (but most stink). I find it is better to 1) Go to observer mode and watch top rank guilds play the particular class you are interested in. 2) head to a top ranked guilds website (they usually have a publically accessable forum) and read up on their personal observations and comments. 3) Most importantly, play the build, and slowly tweak it to fit your gaming style. |

I make my own. Sometimes I will look here or pvxwiki for some idea, but I end up modifying them to suit me.

I check wiki/guru/obs mode for inspiration. |

pvxwiki is a good place to start but keep in mind that most of the "great" builds on there are balanced for general damage, protection and healing.
That means that if you are going with a group or H/H you will want to change the build depending on your role. For instance, you heroes and henchmen can handle healing pretty well so you may want to unbalance the build in favor of damage. Or, if you know you are going to an area with specific damage you may want to drop general protection for stronger protection against that specific damage. So, where ever you get your build from you need to learn to change it around to fit the circumstances you are dealing with. But that is the fun of this game, you can change the build in a huge amount of ways for all kinds of effects instead of using just one. |

I usually use this site and pvx wiki for the general idea then modify for my own needs. As for my heroes they are usually straight pvx copies.

I often run builds that aren't found on pvxwiki or elsewhere, simply because I find them fun - the issue with sites like pvxwiki is that there is a very close-minded attitude about some things, so if one posts certain types of build there they will be voted down anyway.
pvxwiki does serve as a good starting point for many builds, but I also use these forums, our guild's forum, and simply poking around with skills as sources of inspiration. I'm lucky to have some very creative guildmates, and have adopted several of their builds for fun. |

I've usually made my own. I look at what the skill trainers have and choose what looks interesting/compatible with my playing style. Then I'll peruse the wiki to see what other skills might be available that I can eventually gain access to, especially as regards elites (their locations and so forth).
I'm always open to suggestions and have added a skill here and there on occassion due to someone's recommendation. Generally, though, I'm comfortable with my builds and usually have a good reason for using what I use. I try not to fall into the trap of using the latest 'in' skill simply because it's 'in' and everyone's using it (Searing Flames leaps to mind). The one exception is my monk, who got bogged down at Unwaking Waters and I left him sitting there for a year. Someone posted a build in a thread about hero monk builds and I used it not only on my heroes but on my monk toon as well. Finished Factions in a couple hours. |

If I want to look up something, I prefer PvXwiki, easiest to navigate.

Getting builds
Guild Wiki helps, although as others have said I don't always have all the skills.
When I "run" with other human players and notice they've got a dyanmite build (no pun intended), I'll save it off. Several of my guild mates are co workers and I go to them for advice, too. But none of them are warriors or melee fighters (I like my warrior). In either case I can usually come close to what they use even if I can't copy it. Something else (this is mildly embarrassing) that I've learned is that in PvE, when I've had my head handed to me on a platter by a boss or some mob I pay really close attention to what skills the AI was combining and then go research them. I enjoy setting something similar up myself and going back at 'em. |

I take the basic idea for a build from wiki then see if it works for me.
Sometimes friends recommend a good build again I tweak it for my own purposes. Always looking for the "perfect" build of course it doesnt excist but doesnt stop me looking. |
