Smiting Staffs and Rods Written in Purple
I encountered some smiting staffs and rods that have their names and effects written in purple. They have relatively high req (like 4-8), but they don't do much damage. And people were selling them for 1-2k So I was wondering what's so special about them? R they worth that much? Thanks.

Usually with staves, it's not so much about damage as it is the mods on them. Did they have any sort of mods like + energy (insightful), 20% longer enchant duration, +30 health, etc?
There's also a chance those guys were just trying to peddle off their crappy drops for more than they're worth. |

Yeah, I bought one (rod) for 100g and it had -1 energy regeneration and +13 energy, 8-14 damage, req 6 smiting prayer. But y is it's name and mods written in purple? Isn't it usually blue?

Are you still in pre-searing, Sir T? That's the only place where purples are going to command a high price. Those "high" reqs are actually very low. The standard req for a max damage weapon is 9.
Wands and staves are never going to do much damage anyway - even the most perfect max is only ever going to do 11-22.

2) Post all relavent info in your questions - like this seems to be regarding Pre-searing. Smiting is beneficial for farming the undead in the Catacombs, as it will do double damage against the undead. 3) Since you know to use wiki, please learn how to use it. It has most info available through links on the main page. If you don't find the info you want through those links, use the search function. If you still don't find it from the possible search matches, scroll to the bottom of the search results page and click the boxes to open more possible links. Talk pages often have info not on the general info pages, so choose that. |
